Since age one, I've stared through Leviathan's eyes
    Conditioned by a snake-bitten system
    Hate-ridden like a triple conviction
    Pain-stricken like a visual lynching
Britannia's a killer like her Imperial sibling
I've watched colonialism's children shot crack in inner city buildings
Five generations after picking cotton for the pilgrims

    Hey mate

Isn't he in a group with Melanin 9? I (re)listened to Magna Carta recently, haven't checked more from their crew though

Yeah man Triple Darkness. The group album (Anathema) is class and so is Cyrus Malachi's debut album (Ancient Future). The lyrics in OP are off that Malachi album...song's called Native Son.

If you like Melanin9 you'll like Cyrus Malachi :emoji_thumbsup:

Out of context I can see why bars 2-4 might seem a little forced. "snake-bitten system" continues the devil-run-society imagery of the previous few bars which aren't included in OP (snake---->adam/eve---->devil). It's not just put there to rhyme which might be what you'd think if you haven't heard the first few bars of verse.

It's the last 3 bars posted that I really love though.

If you listen to the track none of it sounds forced at all.

I actually commented that after looking up the track lol. I feel like the right rapper can make anything sound dope. On paper, the multis still come off as forced.

C'mon son if Mos Def had dropped that verse on Black Star in 1998 you'd be creaming your pants (we all would).

Mos Def always came off really organic with his writing.

Same song, just remixed, different arrangement
Put you on a yacht but they won't call it a slave ship
Strangeness, you don't control this, you barely hold this
Screaming "brand new", when they just sanitized the old s---
Suppose it's, just another clever Jedi mind trick
That they been running across stars through all the time with
    I find it's distressing, there's never no in-between
We either n----s or Kings, we either b------s or Queens
The deadly ritual seems immersed in the perverse
Full of short attention spans, short tempers, and short skirts
Long barrel automatics released in short bursts
The length of black life is treated with short worth
