After going through many threads on the site and engaging in various topics, a tough question came to me in regards to the state of music. We all talk about Eminem and how he is just not who he once was and how we want him to be late 90s into the early 2000s Em. Although we do not love his present music, it's almost like we are clinging on to this hope of it ever getting back to the way it was. I've come to terms his music will never be the same. I then look at how myself and many others prefer artist's previous work. We look at Wayne and his older Carters, Wiz and his Flight School, Prince of the City 2 mixtape, etc., and wonder if I'm failing to adapt to present day hip hop/rap. Am I stubborn and stuck in my ways of what used to be and how that music made me feel growing up? Have I clung on to the past and refused adapt? I'm fairly new to the site and would love to hear all opinions.

Well you are probably just listening to rappers who were once g.o.a.t.s and now average (like wayne, eminem). Maybe you should try to listen to other ('newer') artists who also make great music. Obviously music changed, but I enjoy both new and older music. What artists do you listen to?

@Gooseknuckle15 i was the same way

this website put on me onto rappers like travis scott, young thug, asap rocky, vince staples, even little drake and j cole

its different type of rap man... i used to call it trash but it's just different

i literally had to go to the gym with an album and just listen to it start to finish before i was feeling it

this website really expanded my taste into the new age rap :final:

nostalgia also plays a huge role btw

Yeah you're probably right. I listen to J Cole, Kendrick, Young Thug, etc. idk music is just different. Just as Eminem says in Syllables. "It is not about syllables anymore. It's about a hot beat and a catchy hook."

It's different indeed. But there is a lot of rap out there that isn't about just a beat and catchy hook (I enjoy both). Check out the 'what album/song are you listening to' threads in the music section, those and other threads can help you find new artist to check out.

I'm about the same way, but I can't grasp onto these new cats, Travis Scott or future or the likes, I just feel its too simple...but then I look back and see what I listened to in the past, like 3 6 mafia, lil wyte, all these simple raps that I thought was hot s---, and I can't even understand why I liked it.... Just getting old.

I still listen to some of the music I listened to when I was younger..

    3 6 mafia
    Bone Thugs
    Lil Wyte
    Ghetto Mafia
    Pastor Troy

Mostly their oldest stuff.. I think artists evolve, but not necessarily in a good way

It's hard to move on from great artists bc we always think that they'll be great forever and when they fall off it feels like you lost something important . At least that's how it is for me. I love eminems music but I no longer listen to his newer music bc it simply f
doesn't interest ms anymore. I've grown up and started branching out to newer acts and music that I've never given a chance

I don't mind the newer Eminem stuff. I've always loved fast rap, so seeing him branch into that, and it coming out as how I see really good, I can't complain. the subject material may not be the same and not as much emotion, that's that
