Frank Ocean has been announced as the first Lovebox Festival headliner for 2017, what is being billed as a “London festival exclusive”.

Lovebox 2017 runs from July 14-15 at the capital’s Victoria Park. The R&B star will headline the Friday leg of the festival. Tickets are on sale now at the Lovebox website.

A press release reads: “Visionary artist Frank Ocean has earned his place as one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed acts of this era… Frank Ocean is sure to lead the way of what will be an unforgettable roster, once again making London’s own Lovebox a defining moment of the festival season. This outstanding headliner is the first taste of great things to come for Lovebox 2017.”

Last year’s Lovebox was headlined by Major Lazer and LCD Soundsystem.

The announcement marks Ocean’s live return. He last played live in July 2014.

Ocean released his long-awaited second studio album ‘Blonde’ in August. It came just days after the Apple Music exclusive visual album ‘Endless’.

Ocean recently gave his first interview in three years, revealing that he is working on new music but may never release an album again.

After a lengthy silence following the releases, Ocean has granted an interview to The New York Times. The NY Times interview confirmed that the singer is working on new music in an “anonymous recording studio” but may move away from the album format in the future.

Ocean, who recently parted ways with long-term label Def Jam, said: “Because I’m not in a record deal, I don’t have to operate in an album format. I can operate in half-a-song format.”

He also suggested that he might devote less time to music and operate in other mediums in the future, revealing that he had been looking at enrolling for a visual arts degree at a New York university.

“I believe that I’m one of the best in the world at what I do, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted to be,” he explained. “It’s more interesting for me to figure out how to be superior in areas where I’m naive, where I’m a novice.”
