Flacko Too Blessed To Be Humble

In judging an artists overall legacy. If an artist has an incredible discography but little signs of major influence, is that a stain or their legacy. Or does it not matter too much. Does the quality of their influence matter? For example if the artists that they directly influenced make music that is not regarded highly but is still popular, does that have an effect on their ranking.

Do we weigh influence too highly or not highly enough when we rank and appraise artists

Influence and trust go hand in hand. An artist that isn't relatable or trustworthy when you hear their music isn't going to have influence over you. There's no specific equation to being the most influential, but I bet if you mix the hard work you put into your craft with honesty, the influence will come.

    Influence def plays into it.

When you think about Lil Wayne and Kanye, they basically set the path for the current sound (Melodies and auto tune).

I think it's important but overrated. Just because an artist isn't the first to do something doesn't mean he/she can't do it better than the originator

if they do it better than and expand upon the person who started it, I'd argue that that makes them influential too.

Not that important to me, someone like MF Doom is one of the GOATs but you can't really hear him in any other rappers.

There's rappers like Gucci who are more influential than they are good at rapping. But then there's under ground rappers like atmosphere, binary star etc who arnt influential at all, but still are GOATS.

I guess you can only be influential if you bring something new to the table; Kendrick is the most popular rapper in the world right now but his style isn't anything new. Future, migos and thugger are far less popular but you can hear there sound in pretty much any new artist.
