The fact that it's over an industry beat is irrelevant. The proper term for a track like this would be a "freeverse" but the mainstream hip hop community has slowly made it synonymous with "freestyle," which bugs the h--- out of me.

edit: not taking away from lil homie's track either, it was fire. but not a "true" freestyle IMO.

I agree the tracks dope but its a freeverse. Freestyle would be aiite if it was one take no cuts type video of you goin at the beat top of the dome.

To address the question at hand here, I called it a freestyle because it's a more recognizable term among casual hip hop listeners. I see where you're coming from but lots of artists actually do this. It just takes away from confusion and adds more familiarity than me putting "Freeverse" in the title. I don't like the term Remix either so the only option to go with here was Freestyle. Hope that explains it for you. (P.S I do know what an off the dome freestyle is but I feel like the term freestyle has changed a bit over the years to include more of a broad spectrum, for example the "XXL Freestyles". We all know most of those are rehearsed writtens)
