Mixtapes don’t seem as popular as they once were. But at one time they were preferred by many over albums.

what are some of your favorite mixtapes and tracks off the mixtapes.

I’m going to start off with Mood Muzik 3 by Joe Budden. Dear diary had probably the best break up line ever.

“I got another side I never showed to you, the side where everybody is disposable, see, relationships are never a threat, ‘cause I’ll erase the history and act like we never met”

Guess they aren't as popular because it's so much easier to get an official release out to the masses compared to a decade ago.

My personal favourite time of mixtapes was:
    1. The Game's G-Unot run
    2. The Conspiracy mixtapes
    3. G Unit Radio series (well sat least the first [maybe] 10 anyway)

a mixtape is practically the same thing is an album nowadays. I guess I think more of mixtapes now as in the classic 00's kind - freestyles, loosies, leftovers, etc (or in some cases like Weezy just murdering everything else that was out at the time)

We Got It 4 Cheap 2
50 Cent Is the Future / No Mercy No Fear / God's Plan
    Dedication 2
    Drought 3

@the lyricvore I've always heard good things about Budden's mixtape run but never got into it. Where would you recommend I start?

I would start with mood music 1-3
Then halfway house & escape route.

His self titled album “joe budden” along with some love lost & all love lost are worth a spin as well.

I will say this. His beat selection is trash. But his story telling ability is amazing. Probably the best there has ever been at story telling.

I think the greatest mixtape of all time is easily 50 Cent Guess Who’s Back. My 2nd favorite mixtape is probably Lil Wayne Da Drought 3. I also love pretty much the entirety of Joe Budden’s Mood Muzik series. There are some classic songs throughout those mixtapes.

I also really enjoyed ya boys mixtapes the rise, the fix & I’m bout to murder this s---.

Bishop Lamont had a few really good mixtapes as well. Too bad dre just made him sit on the aftermath shelf

Ohhhhh s--- I’m a f---ing r-----. I listen to Chamillionaire all the d--- time. I responded so fast I completely forgot about him. Shame on me. Those tapes are amazing. Dudes whole catalogue is top notch.

As a whole, I’d rank the mixtape messiah series above joe Budden mood muzik series.

A f---ing shame venom got shelved. Wish that album would leak... Cham is probably one of the most underrated rappers ever. Everyone knows him because of riding dirty. But dude had it all. Punch lines. Could sing decent enough to do hooks. s---
