Feb 18, 2016 Nas’ Mass Appeal label is preparing for the April 15 release of J Dilla’s The Diary album, according to a press release. The rapper also discussed the project today (February 18) on Beats 1 Radio. The Diary will feature unreleased raps and beats from J Dilla. Snoop Dogg, Pete Rock, Madlib and Bilal, among others, are the guests slated to appear on the project. The Mass Appeal release will include the single “The Introduction,” which is available on HipHopDX. In October, Nas previewed a J Dilla-produced song called “The Season,” which features the Queens, New York artist rhyming over J Dilla’s Donuts track “Gobstopper.” J Dilla passed away in 2006 due to complications from lupus. He initially planned to release The Diary in 2002. It is the final collection of unissued material that Dilla had assembled for release during his lifetime. The Diary cover art and tracklist are as follows: The Introduction The Anthem feat. Frank & Dank Fight Club feat. Nottz & Boogie The Shining Pt. 1 (Diamonds) feat. Kenny Wray The Shining Pt. 2 (Ice) Trucks Gangsta Boogie feat. Snoop Dogg & Kokane Drive Me Wild Give Them What They Want The Creep (The O) The Ex feat. Bilal So Far f--- The Police The Diary Source: hiphopdx.com
Feb 18, 2016 new Dilla is always welcome! however, there's a lot that looks familiar here I recognize a lot of songs off that Pay Jay album and I'll bet the "unreleased beats" are ones we've heard before too. The man only made so much music before he died and I think we're reaching the bottom of his archives
Feb 19, 2016 I'm far more excited to hear Jay Dee rapping now than hear any of the recent best tapes they've released in his name. His ignorance is so appeasing.
Apr 18, 2016 The album turned out great. I'm glad those old "Pay Jay" tracks finally got mixed & mastered correctly and given an official release.
