Serious Shooting In Denver

    A sheriff’s office in Colorado reported “multiple deputies down” in a shooting south of Denver on Sunday morning.
    The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said it had no update on the deputies’ conditions. The shooting happened in Highlands Ranch, Colo., about 15 miles south of Denver.
    “We have multiple officers down,” Deputy Jason Blanchard said in a telephone interview on Sunday. He described it as an active scene and said the gunman was not in custody.
    Deputies were responding to a call of a domestic disturbance around 5:15 a.m. at the Copper Canyon Apartments on County Line Road in Highlands Ranch, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Facebook.
    “During the investigation, shots were fired and multiple deputies were injured,” the statement said. “At this time we do not have any further information on the status of the deputies involved. We do not have any information on civilian casualties at this time.”
    Lauren Lekander, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office, said a SWAT team was responding.
    The office reported on Twitter around 6:45 a.m. local time that it initially had a report of one deputy who was shot.
    The Sheriff’s Office issued a “code red” alerting civilians in the area to shelter in place, avoid windows and stay away from exterior walls.
