Apr 14, 2019 Barter 6 gets an 8.9/10 from 7 ratings Next up… RATING 31: Playboi Carti - Playboi Carti Release Date: 14 April 2017 Label: AWGE/Interscope Tracklist: 01. Location 02. Magnolia 03. Had 2 Even though this mixtape only came out in 2017, I’ve always thought Carti deserved a spot on that infamous 2016 XXL Freshmen list, right alongside Uzi, Yachty, Kodak, Savage, etc. Sure, he hadn’t dropped a project yet but the success of massive singles like Fetti and Broke Boi and the subsequent waves they generated were in my opinion more than enough to promote Carti a year ahead of his eventual Class of 17. Its been exactly 2 years now since Carti finally capitalised on the bubbling success of the aforementioned series of SoundCloud singles and loosies and burst into the public consciousness with his debut self-titled mixtape. Dropping on the same day as Kendrick Lamar’s highly acclaimed and massively popular d---. didn’t stop Carti from achieving a high level of market penetration. With lead single Magnolia (and co-signs from A$AP Rocky and Lil Uzi Vert), Carti introduced us to a whole new level of Chief Keef-inspired ad-lib heavy rap (glockyyyyy!) that saw a significant amount of success and sonic influence in the years to come. A previously unknown Pierre Bourne is behind the boards for most of the songs that appear here and he does an incredible job of blending that spacey, ethereal (no pun intended) Father/Awful Records sounds with his own signature buoyant trap-inspired touch. Die Lit, released a year later is undoubtedly the bigger, better and glossier project but Playboi Carti certainly holds its own. 2 years later and it still sounds fresh, inspired and fun. I give it a 7/10. @RateThisAlbum
Apr 14, 2019 8/10 I remember liking this "tape" more when it first came out. After Die Lit dropped, this seemed more of a lesser work. Still vintage Cartier though. First 4 tracks are strong, after that, besides New Choppa, tracks are just decent. Carti still the GOAT of Soundcloud.
Apr 14, 2019 I was really lukewarm on this tape at first—I think I remember scoffing at people rating 8s and 9s and giving it a 5/10 or something. While I still think 9/10 is way too high, it slowly grew on me after a few listens—it's just so carefree and fun. I'd probably give this a solid 7/10. Like others have mentioned, this is one of those situations where his second album improved upon the first so vastly I barely ever listen to it anymore. But it's still got some undeniable permabangers like Magnolia. Also wanna take this time to say most of carti's music pre-the self titled tape sucks s--- and you hypebeasts were kidding yourselves thinking that s--- was good rofl
Apr 14, 2019 ah s--- i missed the barter 6, okay well for the record its a 9/10 and my best young thug project as for playboi carti, this is also a 9/10 this tape grew on me so much in the time since its release, to the point where it's one of my favourite projects now the production is so d--- lavish it amplifies carti's cocky and confident delivery, works together so well Favourite songs are wokeuplikethis*, Yah Mean, Location, Dothatshit!, Let It Go
Apr 14, 2019 7/10 Carti has grown tremendously since I first heard this tape, I've said it before that he's great at creating carefree and raucous songs perfect for blasting in your headphones and at your next drug-fueled party. This tape was a new step in his career and Carti's production choices are always spot on for his energetic, brash delivery. My issue is that it's a bit redundant at times and unlike in Die Lit, the novelty does wear off a bit. But those songs that fire on all cylinders like Fetti & Magnolia are impossible to deny, like Sav said Pierre Bourne is an animal behind the boards.
Apr 20, 2019 Playboi Carti gets a 7.6/10 from 5 ratings next up… RATING 32: Nipsey Hussle - Victory Lap Release Date: 16 February 2018 Label: Atlantic / All Money In No Money Out Tracklist: 01. Right Hand 2 God Besides for a few songs and features here and there, this was my proper introduction to Nipsey. I still haven’t listened to the rest of his discography so its difficult to judge how this album lands in his catalog. But still, as a standalone album, Victory Lap is pretty much exactly as its title suggests. Its powerful, victorious, triumphant. Nipsey’s voice takes on a commanding presence, echoing and booming across what might be a perfect set of classically West-coast inspired instrumentals. Its difficult to recall another recent album that recreates and updates the heyday of G-Funk so well (excl. YG). The influences are clear but its Nipsey himself that makes Victory Lap what it is. The themes are clear (just look at the song titles) - winning the race, coming out on top, revelling in triumph after emerging from the struggle - topics that can easily come across as corny if it weren’t for Nipsey’s deft touch. I’m glad this album was nominated for a Grammy. For what was technically a debut project, from a relatively unknown (relative to usual Grammy nominees) artist that had never exactly lit up the charts, the nomination was a pleasant surprise. From the little I do know about him, Nipsey sought to translate his success into positive change for his community. His loss is not only one to the hip hop but to the world at large. Rest in power Nip. I give Victory Lap an 8/10. @RateThisAlbum
Apr 20, 2019 8.5/10 Still one of the best rap albums of 2018. Not my favorite from the man, but still bumping. RIP Nip.
Apr 28, 2019 tHread about Nip and peeps talking about Hopsin, sHame. Victory Lap get's 9/10, amazing album (imagine, it's His debut). His wHole discograpHy is great, even tHo it's basically buncH of mixtapes and only one studio album. Hussle & Motivate is my fav song. @Sav Stanfield you might wanna check this out:
Apr 28, 2019 8.7/10 This album gained a lot more emotional value after what happened to Nip, more in particular, if you look back at the scope & length of his career. He's a gifted rapper at tapping into the very desperation of living in the struggle & having the stamina to survive in it; His mantra has always been The Marathon continues. On Victory Lap this he culiminates all that hard work & experience into a strongly cohesive and vintage West Coast album, some of the strongest verses of his career are all over this it's really incredible to see just how crisp his delivery is. It truly does feel like his Victory Lap, RIP Nip
Apr 28, 2019 Got into Nip late but this was one of the top albums from 2018. It really gave me a feel of Hip Hop at its essence. 8/10

Dec 27, 2019 Yes/no is a bad idea imo Maybe albums above a certain score or have a top 10/15 by everyone and give points for the ranking (nr 15 gets 1 point and 1 gets 15 or something) and then count all of the points for each album mentioned? @Sav Stanfield Good call btw my list is pretty easy to make tbh
