Mar 4, 2021 I can definitely relate to that last part. I have an aeropress that I've used a few times, but I'm more into espresso, which is honestly extremely challenging to master. Maybe I should switch to pour over, but my favorite coffee drink is a cortado, so I really want to get good at espresso. I have my own espresso machine and grinder, and it's insane how many variables affect your coffee...how much you dose, distribution to make sure the water flows through evenly, brew temperature and pressure, brew ratio, how you tamp, your water quality. I'm also more into the 'third wave' lighter roasted coffee now, which are more finicky and less forgiving than the dark roasts. I should've picked an easier (and less expensive) hobby.
Mar 4, 2021 Light roasts are the best man, I find that a lot of dark roasts just end up tasting burnt. But yeah there's so many variables that seem super pretentious at first but the more you do it the more you see how much it effects things. But I truly feel like I've mastered the aeropress at this point and never realized just how good I could make it until I practiced/experimented and looked up guides online lol.
Mar 5, 2021 Yeah, light roasts are great but they're much harder to work with, especially with espresso. All the variables matter much more when you're making espresso with a light roast. Dark roasts are pretty forgiving. and yeah, it seems very pretentious, but as you said, these variables all matter a lot. Right now I'm using an espresso machine which doesn't allow me to control for temperature, which I've come to realize is an extremely important factor. Brew temperature has a big impact on taste, so even if I'm doing everything right in my prep, I can end up with a s-----y espresso if my temperature is wrong. I'm looking to modify my machine with a PID so that I can control the temperature...but it's like an extra $200-300 (and my machine was already like $550). Plus the grinder is another $550. And the grinder is more important than the espresso machine. Point is, it's an expensive hobby lol. plus quality beans cost money too. Have you experimented with espresso too? You should check out James Hoffmann's youtube channel. He's a good coffee expert.
Mar 6, 2021 @Donkey Kong Country saw a commercial about that weight blanket a few times now, hesitating to buy it. This thread convinced me to do it!
Mar 6, 2021 Srs q can u make cherry soda ? Like i know it should but i dunno how that works. Cuz throwing sugar on soda usually makes it fizz away
Mar 6, 2021 That post was about a weighted blanket which you cannot make cherry soda with. However you can make different flavors with soda stream. I just use it for seltzer but they have different flavors you can add like coke, cherry coke and cherry flavored. I'm honestly not sure how it tastes since I just drink it plain
Mar 6, 2021 I was hooking up with a chick last year that was insistent on sleeping with a weighted blanket, I could not do it. I get hot way too d--- easily, felt like I was in a d--- sauna lol.
Mar 6, 2021 @Michael Myers I also run super hot so I made sure to do some research, the one I got is pretty breathable and has cooling fabric. I don't think it'll be as viable in the summer like @Worm said—and I also don't like sleeping with the AC on cuz it f---s with my sinuses. There were many nights my first summer in ATL where I just slept on top of my blankets. Never heard of that channel so I'll peep! And yeah, I should have specified that dark roasters are good for espresso—but whenever people make them for like french press or drip coffee it never tastes right to me. My mom used to have an espresso machine so I've made it before but haven't had much practice with it—and back then I just made iced lattes and americanos anyway. I'd love to get a good espresso machine at some point.
Mar 6, 2021 Oh yeah during summers I mostly sleep under the duvet cover (had to look up the exact word for it lol) or on top as well, so when I am gonna buy it its gonna be for the fall / winter. Atm its still pretty cold at night but in a month or 2 thats gonna change. So imma have some time to find the right one, but its definitely on top of my list of things to buy. Also probably gonna use it the most when I'm watching a movie or smt like that, because I find myself turning a lot then.
Feb 7, 2023 Same. One of the best decisions I’ve made, super nice just having the floors clean and not have to worry about it. Especially with dogs around
