    The term everyone is looking for here is a star. He's gained occult status. The difference between a star and a rock star is whether or not they perform rock, that's not taking it too literally. What would you say if someone called Eddie Van Halen a rap star?

    The term rockstar has evolved from its literal meaning. People get called rockstars all the time that don't perform rock. If you read @Narsh post it's the second definition that applies to Ye.

    Yeah but why not say superstar at that point. I understand it seems like I'm just pushing a little thing but imagine if someone said chances the social experiment was a rock band.

    Just because rap is the most relevant genre nowadays doesn't make its successful artists rock stars lol

    Hes a star. Or even a pop star. Same meaning, proper terminology. Just cuz Kanye misuses the term as well doesn't make it any truer.
