May 1, 2018 Who considers 2001 the best album in Dre's catalogue? 'Cause they're wrong. Honestly both albums are great but 2001 is kinda bloated and overlong and starts to drag towards the end. Carter 2 is some of the most masterful rapping ever.
May 1, 2018 2001 has a great collection of standouts but those interludes (reminder that sex skits f---ing stink) and b-side songs feel very lifeless. Compare it to C2 where Wayne was already mastering the stream of conscious wordplay and a lush/varied production that doesn't get the credit it deserves. C2 is a better album but I'd be dumb not to give credit where 2001 produced some of the most iconic rap songs oat (Still DRE & Next Episode) and had some of my favorite Em features.
