Feb 1, 2019 A little question about the evolution of subject matters in the history of music. Obviously songwriters have always written about themselves in a sense, but do you have examples in mind of non-hip hop artists explicitly telling some apparently trivial events that happened to them, dropping names and all, making it a little harder to relate directly? What artists have been known for using their own lives as their main subject matter? Thanks in advance for your answers (edit: "like most rappers do" might be an exaggeration, but you get the point)
Feb 1, 2019 the Blues dude...and every genre derived from it(like country)...but especially rap and hip hop
Feb 1, 2019 ...all of them...from Robert Johnson to Buddy Guy...it's the blues, it's what they all do. Aint you ever seen Dewey Cox? psssht
Feb 1, 2019 I'm actually quite a blues fan myself. I asked you who you were thinking of because I don't see it - bluesmen were so much more metaphorical/allusive when they were referencing parts of their lives that it's not the same thing, really.
Feb 2, 2019 alright nevermind guys, thought this would create some interesting discussion but I was obviously wrong
