Jan 23, 2017 Nearly two years after first denying a rumored investment, Sprint has announced its acquisition of a 33 percent stake in Jay Z's competitive streaming service Tidal. The partnership will provide Sprint's 45 million customers with "unlimited access" to exclusive artist content. Anyone with a preexisting Tidal subscription, meanwhile, will experience no change in their service. "Sprint shares our view of revolutionizing the creative industry to allow artists to connect directly with their fans and reach their fullest, shared potential," Jay Z said in a press release Monday. "[Sprint CEO] Marcelo [Claure] understood our goal right away and together we are excited to bring Sprint's 45 million customers an unmatched entertainment experience."

Jan 23, 2017 (AllHipHop News) Streaming platform Tidal and telecommunications giant Sprint announced a new partnership between the two companies. The new business association means Sprint’s 45 million retail customers will gain unlimited access to exclusive artist content. Sprint will also acquire 33% of Tidal, but Shawn “Jay Z” Carter, and his fellow artist-owners, will continue to run the service.... “Sprint shares our view of revolutionizing the creative industry to allow artists to connect directly with their fans and reach their fullest, shared potential,” states Jay. “[Sprint’s chief executive officer] Marcelo [Claure] understood our goal right away and together we are excited to bring Sprint’s 45 million customers an unmatched entertainment experience.” Claure will join Tidal’s Board of Directors as well. “Jay saw not only a business need, but a cultural one, and put his heart and grit into building Tidal into a world-class music streaming platform that is unrivaled in quality and content,” added Claure. “The passion and dedication that these artist-owners bring to fans will enable Sprint to offer new and existing customers access to exclusive content and entertainment experiences in a way no other service can.” Part of the Sprint-Tidal union will include the creation of a dedicated marketing fund specifically for artists. The fund will allow them the flexibility to create and share their work with their fans. In addition, Tidal and its artists will present exclusive content that will only be available to current and new Sprint customers. Some of Tidal’s artist-owners include Jay Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, T.I., J. Cole, Madonna, Usher, Damien Marley, Calvin Harris, Chris Martin, Daft Punk, Jack White, and Deadmau5. The Tidal Rising feature has highlighted emerging acts like Sir the Baptist, Lil Yachty, Desiigner, 21 Savage, Alessia Cara, Justine Skye, Dave East, Levi Carter, Bibi Bourelly, Kevin Garrett, Jacob Lattimore, BZZY, 6lack, and Dae Dae.
