Jul 13, 2018...do you otherwise read for pleasure?
I'm sure you've all seen a bunch of headlines saying that millennials and the iGeneration/generation z don't read. And also headlines stating that those two generations DO read, our reading habits are just different (we do a lot of our reading online via articles/thinkpieces/etc.) So I find it interesting that, as of this post, 88.3% of people on a music forum said they either never cared to read reviews or care less about reading reviews than they used to.
I'm curious: do people here not read criticism because they're not big readers in general? Or do they legitimately just not like reading music reviews and instead read other things, whether it's other journalism or an actual book.
Also read the poll questions carefully cuz they cover a lot of options.

Very much an obsessive reader for better or worse, unconsciously I could be reading a whole bunch of books/articles for hours.
Sort of throwing caution into the wind with a question like this but, when critics are talking about instrumentations or musical terms do some of you guys feel like it's deterring to your experience as far as reading/critiquing music reviews? Sort of curious since I feel a lot of people can get overwhelmed by complicated terms & the sheer amount of music available.Ordinary Joel, Packman, DKC and 1 other person like this. -

Voted option 2
For leisure:
- I read reviews and criticisms for rap music and video games
- I read journalism for rap music, video games, sports, and sometimes (but seldom) world news
- I seldom read books anymore. The last one I consumed was Eleven Rings by Phil Jackson, but I listened to the audio book during a road trip. Once I'm done school and have free reading time again, I've got a backlog of books I'll work through.
For school:
I read text books, legal cases/decisions, case notes, news articles, just about 99% of law school is readingOrdinary Joel, Fire Squad and DKC like this. -

A lot of people on this forum can't read so it is skewed data. They don't have that choice of reading reviews because they can't read them. #ManHoleCovetMudkip, DKC and Fire Squad like this. -

I don't really bother reading through reviews and i don't know why, but i do try to keep up with current news and journalism (regarding hip-hop as well, of course) and i do read a book once in a while but i read quite slow.
I would read reviews, but there's so many of them out there, and i'd rather research the artists background in another way. And i doubt reviews would change or strenghten my opinion on a certain artist/album/producer, but i find interviews and other journalism much better for that
For example:
Gucci Mane's autobiography made me appreciate him even more as an artist
This Yung Lean interview made me appreciate Warlord from a completely different light
This video didn't really change my opinion on Ziggy (was my favorite producer, still is) but was just heartwarming and interesting in general
