Feb 1, 2016 To follow up the Summertime 06 vs My Krazy Life thread I made the other day, I'm gonna make another comparison, but this time it's a Kanye Edition of course. Might turn this into a little series (if there are any albums to compare left ) Kanye's 1st and 2nd album. Yeezy went on a mission to prove the world that he is more than just a producer, both of these albums engraved his mark in the rap world, changing the sound of the game. He explored the diversity of hip-hop, moving into a direction that went away from Gangsta Rap. The College Dropout (2004) Kanye's debut album and my personal favourite out of the two. It didn't take time for Kanye to build his success in his rapping career, he made an instant impact; selling over 441,000 copies in his first week. Through The Wire and Slow Jamz were the singles that lead up to this release. These were the days when Kanye didn't have much people involved on his own album and produced and wrote the majority of his work. He created an iconic sound at the time which was followed up with great songs such as All Falls Down and his own anthem in Jesus Walks. This album was a huge step for Kanye and hip hop, I do go back to this album quite a bit. Late Registration (2005) An album that really didn't have many songs that I would consider to be less than great. For those who contributed to my elimination game found out that it got pretty difficult, pretty early. After the success of Kanye's first album, his popularity grew furthermore the following year when he released Late Registration. He started off with a b--- when he released Diamonds From Sierra Leone then later remixed it with Jay-Z who created a flawless verse. Gold Digger, which still gets played at every female house party I go to. And he found himself collaborating with fellow Chicago rappers Lupe Fiasco and Common on this album. I definitely feel like this album sometimes gets under appreciated due to Kanye's loaded discography. Which album do you guys like better?
Feb 1, 2016 I like the orchestral movie score feel of Late Reg better than the far more dated Chipmunk soul sound (i still like the sound but it's dated af) of College Dropout. Late Reg also just felt more refined to me as an album, felt like a more "adjusted to the rap game" Ye on there, he sounded more comfortable. I also enjoy the tracks more overall. So yeah, imma go with LR. I mean come on....it had "Hey Mama" on there.
Feb 1, 2016 I got to agree with this, I think I enjoy listening to LR start to finish more than CD, it was put together a little better. But prefer the songs on CD imo, it's very close though.
Feb 2, 2016 I like Late Registration more. I think that it sounds better sonically, and the production seems more pristine. Also, I feel that you can see a great improvement in the quality of Kanye's rapping and his rapping ability on LR when you compare it to College Dropout.
Feb 2, 2016 On some days I prefer one over the other. TCD for me. It has Two Words on it, one of my favourite Kanye songs OAT.
Feb 2, 2016 I'm listening to TCD right now I'd pick Late Registration over it though. It's much more memorable to me.
Feb 2, 2016 LR used to be my favorite Kanye album, but it's the only Kanye album that's aged semi-poorly for me. I've only grown to appreciate CD more over the years. Even Kanye admits LR is kinda disjointed.
Feb 2, 2016 College Dropout is better put together But LR has higher highs Depends on your definition of a better album
Feb 3, 2016 Yeah I was going for which one you personally prefer for whatever reason you think makes it better than the other. I went College Dropout because I go back to that album more often.
