Feb 20, 2018 Taken from Rap Genius In a new interview with Billboard, Kendrick explained that he’s currently still feeling on top of his game, and fans will know once he’s starting to get creatively burned out: It’s really always having love for it, and really having fun with it. I think the moment when I’m not having fun with it, and getting into the studio and—you know, going back to the Kobe similarities—maxing out on the full potential, that’s when the fumbling happens. Before that even happens, I’d pass it down and give it to another young boy that has that same passion that can carry that [throne]. But right now, I feel good. I’ll let y'all know when the final years is coming up, when I’m like, ‘OK. This kid is it. He’s from the city. He’s it. He got it.’ He added that he’s always willing to pass the West Coast rap torch to the next generation, provided he sees someone worthy. “If we see the same excitement that you see in yourself in somebody else, that’s the key to evolving and giving [back] in terms of hip-hop,” he said. “Same way they did it to me, I’d do to someone else.”
Feb 20, 2018 Who could he pass it to? This is crazy to think about man. Just yesterday GKMC dropped and shook the game up. I feel old as h--- lol. What I take from this is that he has about two more left in him. d---. Him, Cole and Drake molded the 2011- present era. I think all three will call it quits soon. If I’m gong to be real, who really has what it takes nowadays? I don’t see anybody with the following or talent to shape another era. Let alone the West Coast.
Feb 20, 2018 game had it for like 11 years even tho he only had 1 good album so I wouldnt be worried about Kendrick yet
Feb 20, 2018 That was just my initial question when I read the article lol. Even others had the same questions. Like, “Where is this coming from? Could it already be about that time?” Made me think like , Drake supposedly retiring at 35, Cole giving off retirement vibes (Edit: actually has even said he’s playing around with the thought of it. Also that “Want You To Fly” joint), then there’s Kendrick with this. Thus the “End of an era?” My bad if seemed baity though bruh lol. I think Kendrick really is coming up on that usual time limit artists seem to have. Just doesnt seem like it to me. Hopefully he does have a Game like run.
Feb 20, 2018 1992, Documentary 2.5, Jesus Piece and all of his verses since 2012 can compete with the Documentary
Feb 20, 2018 Drake hedged his bets with like 3 different scenes, and arguably rode Kanye's wave harder.
Feb 20, 2018 Let’s say Dot really does only have two left. Who younger from the West that got that same potential? He said that he'd be willing to pass it right now if he seen that same passion and potential from somebody. I’m leaning towards Vince. Only thing about that though, is that he doesn’t really seem to wanna be on a throne. But he did say that “Kendrick ain’t get to where he wanted till 26, so I got time” Maybe he really want it? Idk man. Maybe they just ain’t pop up yet.
