May 18, 2016 I know, its not as compelling as 'Bad Guy', not much emotional appeal like 'Legacy' BUT: 1.GOAT flow 2.Punchlines and Metaphors numerous and on point 3.dozens of References (shout outs included) 4.Bars (1560 words, non repetitive outside of hooks) Its not the most game changing songs or the most impactful but if pure showcases of skill and lyrical versatility were anything to go by........ the guy says' he's a 'Rap God'. Hard to disagree with rapping like that
May 18, 2016 to be fair, when you listen to other modern rappers how many songs do you hear that have more depth than this? Its alot more to take in than meets the eye
May 18, 2016 Define depth. Em said a lot in rap god but at the same time said nothing at all. Four words can be more powerful than a hundred.
May 18, 2016 you were the one who said he lacked depth, you should be the one defining depth. The song is essentially an ode to himself. "Im beggining to feel like a rap god, rap god" And then he goes on to tell you about himself Cliche? yes? but its done properly In the song: He references his habit of attacking people with his lyrics. He references the media reaction to this (censorship of mmlp, comments about his 'hatred of women' etc) He talks about how he came into the game. He talks about troubles he had throughout his career. This wasn't meant to be the deepest s--- you ever heard, but it does contain content. Cliched as it may be. Lots of other rappers have done "Im the best" type songs. It sounds like a song full of one liners. but those one liners follow certain trains of thought, so the individual stacks of rhymes are following a specifc theme or point which sometimes contain massive depth into Eminem's career. So lacking depth, overall? Maybe? subjectively? in the GOAT argument? but saying 'inch deep' lyrics is really dishonest if you've actually heard it
May 18, 2016 oh god i remember when this dropped in oct 2013 i was so hyped that I had this on replay for 2 days straight haha. Actually that was the last time Em really impressed me with his "rapping skillz" Dope track with a kinda weird beat.
May 18, 2016 i can list out all the thing about his career that he adresses in rap god -his women hate -him going pop (he made it pop by fusing, shock rap and rock and roll (with help from doc)) -people asking him to retire -confirming his own arrogance -him being offensive when he means no offense -what made him 'blow up' -Censorship and the fact that he fell off, and then in the next line stating "Your stuck in a time warp from 2004 though" in effect saying that 'em fell off' has been exaggerated. -the contradiction of having to make songs like 'not afriad' and still be raw enough to eat an MC on the track, saying that the new generation of rappers are hungry (indirectly praising them for their hunger) man, Rap god is deeper than meets the eye it just takes prior knowledge and perspective to get everything out of it yeah in between what lines actually have meaning he goes off into space with his rhymes, but showing off his skills is a part of the song and say's something in itself. Rappers have always done this. Eminem imo though seems to have done it to near perfection Rap God probably is GOAT imo at least top 10 em and definitely top 3 post hiaatus
May 18, 2016 I appreciate you making an argument forRap God, I personally don't see it. I've overplayed rap god to death too, because I thought MMLP2 was going to be good. Boy was I wrong but that's a story for a different thread haha.
May 18, 2016 Meh, if you dont like it then thats fine, i just think it deserves more than being classified as "good flow but s-----y song" which is why i made this thread
May 18, 2016 I remember there was so much hype when this track first came out. I hope he can pull that much hype soon.
