I think it's a widely accepted (with dissenters) opinion that Jay-Z is the GOAT and Wayne is number two. What would it take for Wayne to pass Jay? Another classic? two classics? a run of great features? One more giant single?

Statistically impossible at this point. He would need a time machine

Learning how to rap and make good music would be a start

Honestly never thought about it before, maybe if he dropped a couple more Dedication 2 tier projects at this point in his career, but I don't think he has it in him.

    Influence wise, he already has.

But, as a straight rapper, I think that ship has sailed a long time ago...

Wayne has always been a tier below Hov as a rapper imho.

Its a question of quality control imo. Jay has released plenty of sub-par quality music but it averages out to way more good than bad/mid. That gives and aura of excitement around everything he's dropped, whereas Wayne's been flooding the market for years and his average hit rates been dipping for a while now. Its overexposure I guess. He could still easily drop another all-time classic - C5 (and to an extent, Funeral) was a good reminder of why he's one of the goats - but thats always more unlikely as a rapper ages.

could be a more realistic convo if he pulled out rebirth - that i am not a human being compilation and if carter 4 was stronger. also depends on how you weight wayne's incredible mixtape work.
