But at that time he was cornered, needed to come up with something to provide for Hailie so he thought he'd give it one last shot with a persona that is exact opposite of Infiminem since he's already at rock bottom, might as well, if they hate it they hate it. But lucky for him it stuck and propelled him to the top. Now since Encore he's constantly been bombarded with criticism again, trying everything, still failing, losing all confidence. On top of that he has to try to balance the heavy weight of his own legacy and try to prevent it from coming crumbling down. Tl;dr: cornered, no confidence, trying too hard to compete with his old self but also nothing really at stake if he loses
