"But “Bodak Yellow” had an organic popularity stemming from fans’ overwhelmingly positive reception to the song. The label quickly saw its potential and put forth the marketing dollars in order to morph this untapped potential into a smash hit."

    real article @Flacko

"However, Cardi B has shown us the correct way to deal with “borrowing” another artist’s cadence to use on an original song and it has worked out extremely well for her. As long as you give credit where credit is due, this shouldn’t be an issue at all"

Thats how I felt when I heard the song, the song is even called "Bodak Yellow" how the fact that this song is homage is flying over people's head idk

It's a bite, masked as a homage. Cardi said she named the track Bodak Yellow to reference Kodak Black since she basically just remade Broccoli and wanted to show respect to Kodak. Despite the track being a bite though, it works in her favor especially with all the negative press Kodak has been receiving. The industry is pushing the Bodak Yellow track hard as a way to show that Kodak Black is easily replaceable and "get him out the scene" in a sense.

Whatever the case, Bodak Yellow is either meh or annoying. And Kodak Black is trash.

That's a lot of hot takes dude. Also the track is "No Flockin", not Broccoli.

People who were already fans organically took a liking to it, then labels pushed it so it would be successful among people who didn't know cardi b was a rapper. I don't really know how to explain this any more than I already have. I think the difference between a bite and homage is that when you bite you don't admit that you're stealing, you're trying to pass it off as your own.

One of my professors in college said "bad writers plagiarize, good writers steal" and that always stuck with me.

How can this song even be pushed didn't Kodak use this beat or did she purchase it? I'm assuming the producer is getting paid regardless or he would've said something by now. I see it as a lame move tho literally Kodak beat with his flow just blew up cuz its a b---- and people hadn't heard kodaks.

I don't know how you could possibly argue a rap song blew up because it was by a woman, the mainstream is pretty unreceptive to female rappers in general.
