The running joke surrounding Lil Pump’s breakout hit, “Gucci g---,” is that the 17-year-old rapper has to repeat the title 53 times just to reach the two-minute mark. There’s a version that gets fasterevery time he says “Gucci g---” and there’s another without any repeating words, both of which are less than 50 seconds. Pump, a SoundCloud darling who climbed the platform’s trending chart with songs like “Molly” (1:39), “Elementary” (1:32), and “D Rose” (2:06), is a model of rap efficiency, cranking out highly monotonous songs that seem to end just as quickly as they’ve started. He’s become hugely popular banking on economy. And he’s not alone.

Desiigner did it first btw. Missed the wave by like a year.

Yeah have you ever been in a car with people 18-20 years old? they are all autistic ADHD r-----s who can't listen to a song longer than 30 seconds if they get the Aux cord. they literally play a song, say a few words about it or "u heard this before? so good" then 20 seconds later they skip it to another song, play for 30 seconds and skip and continue doing this. it's all due to the attention span of lil fucken r-----s i swear

it's like instead of listening to music they like and being content with what the f---s going on around them, they only get enjoyment from trying to show you their entire musical taste in a 10 minute car ride by skipping thru their top 200 tracks

This is a stupid trend. Glad that the good artists aren’t following this trend

I like it. It's not like these kinds of songs ever do anything with extra runtime.

I f--- wit short songs tho. So many tracks that try so hard to stick to the intro-verse1-hook-verse2-hook-verse3-hook template that could be cut in half without losing anything. It gets so repetitive

Desiigner actually made the type of short songs that chart on SC like this. Count Bass D did it two years prior to Madvillainy if you wanna get technical.

for me about 3 mins is the golden length. like i heard songs that go for 5 minutes or longer and if it's not first listen then usually without a beat change they can catch the skip button.

like when a rapper has a mixtape/album full of bangers then you hit some fucken "this ma song for all the weed heads" and it's that typical slow beat that goes for 6 mins. i smoke weed every hour and don't give a f--- about them songs and 99% of the time smash the fucken skip button on em so whats that tell you?

yeah it was different back then imo though. like in the 90s if you got a 1-2 min song (for the most part) it was more like someone attempting to show of some kind of skill, like some "crazy beat" or like a really fast rapped freestyle or some kind of s---. where as today it's more like 2 min songs are being made because it's acceptable/preferred length of time for a song.

yeah I agree, it's hard for me to describe it, but it's kind of like 'more to be desired' but in a positive light. like you hear a 2 min song but most of these artists dump a lot of emotional lyrics or say interesting things making you want to hear more in a way. which is a huge difference to say a 3 mins, 3 versed structured "my life" song where at the end you know the artist is a pretty typical gangbanger with a rough upbringing of sorts.

Not tryna be 100% technical like that
I just remember in 2011 with all the up and coming rappers that Vince was the only one atm making 1:50-2:00 long songs that would often leave me wanting more

If the song is good , why not?
Most rappers tho will still be making 3-5 minutes songs , its like a new sub-genre for rap music .

You have Capital STEEZ as your avatar. Most of his songs were short as well, I don't think its a good or bad thing I think it's important to make the song complete regardless of the time.
