Four children were burned at a day care center in Janaúba, northern Minas Gerais, on Thursday morning (5). According to information from the Military Police and Fire Brigade, the guard of the Municipal Center of Childhood Education People inocente, in the Rio Novo neighborhood, threw alcohol into some children and himself, then lighted up.

According to the advice of the Regional Hospital of Janaúba, about 40 people were admitted to the health unit. Most patients are children aged four to five, and they all had more than 20% of the body burned. There are also day care staff among the wounded. Fifteen people breathe with the aid of appliances.

The author of the crime has been working as a night security guard of the site for eight years, according to the Civil Police.

He has not had his identity disclosed, and is in serious condition in the hospital. The city of Janaúba decreed seven days of official mourning in solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy.

Initially, firefighters spoke of six dead children, but later they updated the death toll for four people - confirmed by the Samu (emergency service).

Two units of Janaúba Samu are on site and teams from five cities in the north of Minas Gerais are on the move to attend the event.

The Military Police reported that a PM aircraft is in place to rescue the victims. Also according to the PM, a state government aircraft is leaving Belo Horizonte to Janaúba to transport the wounded to the Hospital João XXIII, in the mining capital, which is a reference in burn treatment in Minas.

The governor of Minas Gerais, Fernando Pimentel (PT), goes to Janaúba to accompany the victims' assistance and investigations into the tragedy. The chief of the executive has ordered the creation of an emergency command post in the city.

President Michel Temer also spoke about the tragedy through his social networks. "I who am a father imagine that this must be a very painful loss," Temer told Twitter.
