Dec 22, 2020 Does it count as an official album or just side B? The way I see it is he had 16 tracks on there. That's even bigger than Kamikaze. So how would it not qualify as an official album? Also, did he plan this new album when he came out with MTMMB? Or was it a recent decision? It came out a year later, so how is it side B? Why not just call it part 2?
Dec 23, 2020 Ostensibly yes, officially no It was probably a label decision to bloat streaming numbers
Dec 23, 2020 Not technically, but when I rank his albums I will absolutely count Side B as a different album than Side A.
Dec 23, 2020 No... even the intro makes it clear it’s a continuation of MTBMB... but it seems like a new album in spirit. I consider it one.
Dec 23, 2020 I don't think so. Which is such a shame. I don't know why they did it like this... It benefits nothing. It doesn't benefit Em, because this 'new album' will be overlooked, as just a deluxe... / sales-wise it doesn't help, deluxe albums sell bad vs. new album... I just don't get why they did this. This is a new album. Deserves its spot in his discog.
Dec 23, 2020 MTBMB obviously became a double album with this one. It's nice to have one like that from Em. Not sure why everybody is having trouble with this decision. I don't think it'd have change in numbers too drastically because it's a deluxe. Once people check it out, they will like it and it'll contribute to the MTBMB album sales which is good because albums don't sale like they used to do and this will obviously help. Plus, the whole concept was same as MTBMB, probably few songs were the ones that meant for MTBMB Side A which was leftover due to sampling clearance issues. (Discombobulated might be one of them but actually every song he doesn't talk have a line about Covid might be from original sessions anyway.) Probably he was gonna orginally release MTBMB as 24 song album or something with deluxe but he couldn't do it (sampling s---). Then he recorded many more tracks obviously as the time goes by. At some point, samples were cleared and he had few album worth new materials too, he decided to release a Side B with them to MTBMB which was the best way to go in my mind. Btw, It was not part 2, it was just deluxe edition but since he had some new songs added to it, he also called it the Side B to give the idea of this is not being you average deluxe edition but not new album neither, just the continuation of the same album.
Dec 23, 2020 I'm tired of this childish question lol. It's clearly not a new album just side B/deluxe of the original one MTBMB Same man I always count first 6 songs from Encore as Encore 1 followed by Encore 2 and I also put Refill in there as a studio album. His discography be going wild man. I feel ya
Dec 23, 2020 Only on thursdays between 3 and 5 pm in a hood near you. otherwise, there is a 93% chance it does not.
Dec 23, 2020 nah if you've been following industry trends the past year it clearly is a new album but is billed as a "deluxe" to boost streaming numbers. That's it. There's a 0% chance it would have been billed as a "deluxe" version of MTBMB if not for that trend. It's a sequel or companion album. I don't consider Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World 2 the same album as Eternal Atake even though it's billed as the "deluxe" version of Eternal Atake. It's all streaming fuckery.
Dec 23, 2020 Releasing it as Music To Be Buried By would have been far more accurate. But perhaps they wanted to end this project the same way it started and move on to a different sound or something. We'll see whenever a new albums comes out. If Em wants to reinvent himself once again, then it'll make all the more sense that this was released as the same project so it wouldn't count as 2 albums.
Dec 23, 2020 I see what you're saying but it doesn't matter what it is considered to be it only matters what it actually is : a deluxe edition of the original album MTBMB and that's it.
Dec 23, 2020 What it's officially released as only matters for sales and other arbitrary label bs that doesn't matter for active music listeners. It's his 12th album. If You're Reading This It's Too Late is Drake's fourth album. More Life is his sixth album. Barter 6 is Young Thug's debut album. The Big Day is not Chance's debut album. I don't see any reason to judge this as the same album that came out in January when he talks about COVID on tons of songs and so much of it was clearly recorded after that album came out. And because Side B is listed as the first side of the deluxe edition it's so clear that the only reason side A is on there is for streaming stuff.
Dec 23, 2020 There could something in his contract where putting out another would have f----- with it. who really knows why he put out a full length album and labeled it like he did
Dec 23, 2020 Different enough to be classed as a new album on my Walkman imo. I have separated them for sure
Dec 23, 2020 It is not a new studio album no. It is sold under the existing album only not even having its own copies. Em has still 11 studio albums out. The reason could be many things, my guess is that at least half of the songs are from the same sessions as the first one and it’s not even as polished as side a, it’s way more raw and that worked great for us as listeners. it’s literally listed and sold with the first album as it’s second side idk why are we being so extra over this.
