Nov 17, 2020 The 17,500-square-foot mansion Detroit rapper Eminem bought in the flush of early success has been put back on the market in Oakland Township for $3.75 million. The estate has almost six acres, a tennis and basketball court, a hot tub and pool with a stone waterfall, a pond with fountains, a cabana and a guest house. It backs up to Stoney Creek Metropark. The rapper bought it in 2003 after the explosive success of his early albums, a couple of which were “Slim Shady” and “The Marshall Mathers LP.” He held it till 2017. It’s those next owners who are listing it now. Many rooms are very large, including the main owners’ bath, which is like a suite of its own. It has a three-car garage, plus a large motor court that used to stage Mathers’ extravagant car collection. He owns multiple Porsches and Ferraris, even a Lamborghini Aventador. Photos that show some of those cars have made it to the current real estate website. When Mathers decided to move home to Michigan after his huge success, it sparked some surprise in the entertainment world. He actually bought a second mansion in nearby Clinton Township. At about 8,000 square feet, that one is still big, but smaller than the Oakland Township house. Street view of 5760 Winkler Mill Road S., Oakland in 2002. But he has actually lived more in Clinton Township, where he’s raised his three daughters. He has said he wanted them to grow up not affected by fame, money and privilege. Before Eminem bought the Oakland Township mansion, it had been known as “the Kmart Mansion,” because it had been owned by Charles Conaway, the CEO of Kmart.
