May 20, 2020 Fat Joe sat down with DJ EFN, N.O.R.E., and Lenny S for a Drink Champs livestream, where they discussed who could go against Eminem in a Verzuz battle. Around the 20:00 mark in the above video, they brought up that DMX was mentioned as a potential opponent, and Fat Joe stated, "I don't think nobody can f*** with Eminem." Joe added, "DMX got the biggest hits in the world, one of the greatest rappers of all time. Legendary, iconic, superhero. And everything I'm saying is understating, he's bigger than that. But there's something about that white boy and his fans—nah bro, you want to see something cracking the internet? That n***a David Koresh, that n***a different!" To make his point, Fat Joe explained why he thinks Eminem is in a class of his own, "Eminem was hot when we came out. His fans from day one are 40, 41 years old. These white people teach their kids that Eminem is the greatest. You go to the airports and 10-year-olds are playing his sh*t. ... There's a big difference with his boy. When you say generational wealth, they keep teaching their kids that he's the man to the ultimate science." Joe also shared a story about Eminem sending him 30 versions of the same verse for the "Lean Back" remix, which you can hear more about above.
May 20, 2020 A hit battle is probably the one kind of battle that would have Eminem at a disadvantage Joe’s right that his fans will say he won no matter what tho
May 20, 2020 Can you imagine how bad they must have been considering the one that was chosen was absolute garbage.
May 20, 2020 Kanye Drake Jay DMX Jcole all of em would wash Eminem in a hits battle imagine getting turnt and excited for Stan or real slim shady... lmfao i guess that’s why the call it window pane...
May 21, 2020 Joe's 100% accurate and is taking a Realpolitik perspective to the cult following that Eminem has. Eminem is probably still in the top 10% of rappers with regards to skill, but is a long way from making a modern-day Nail In The Coffin or another classic album. Despite this, he wields an exceptionally-powerful political influence on the genre, which Joe articulates the rationale for quite well. Whether it's right for someone who was once — inarguably — the best rapper alive to wield this degree of power years later is certainly debatable, but I'll point out that Eminem is not alone with regard to this degree of reverence. Jay-Z and Nas — both considered contenders for the GOAT, and both well past their prime — are still regarded with this degree of reverence. (I'll point out here that Nas's last album was nearly as embarrassingly-bad as MMLP2.) As much as I much prefer Eminem's work from 1999-2002, I'd argue that by this standard, Eminem's current status is appropriate. P.S. — I also agree with the sentiment expressed during the interview that Jay-Z's verses on Renegades are > Eminem's verses. It's a worthy debate, but since a song can be more than the sum of its parts, the real narrative should be pure admiration that two rappers with such very different upbringings could collaborate to make a near-perfect (and cohesive) song.
May 22, 2020 I don't see how DMX has more hits than Em lol. Does he have anything bigger than Lose Yourself really ? Or does he really have more than Em ? Someone pls, name those songs. I can think of 3-4 super hits at most by DMX and Em even has bigger ones lol.
May 22, 2020 Eminem gots this hands down. 1. Soldier 2. Almost Famous 3. Till I Collapse 4. Lose Yourself 5. The Way I Am 6. Above The Law 7. I’m Gone 8. Monkey See Monkey Do 9. Real Slim Shady 10. We Ain’t Bonus Tracks 1. Patiently Waiting 2. Stan 3. Mosh 4. Still Don’t A f--- 5. Lucky You 6. Greatest 7. Godzilla 8. Rap God 9. Cleaning Out My Closet 10. Superman
May 22, 2020 J Cole would actually be an ideal opponent for Em in a hit battle, since neither one is really about making hits but has attempted it multiple times with mixed results. Makes more sense than Em going up against DMX at least
May 23, 2020 Tired of MFers saying people only f--- with Eminem because of his skin color... That’s not what keeps people coming back...it’s the fact the man is super talented. White people teach their kids that Eminem is the guy to listen to because he’s super talented. Why rot your brain with some dumb bs, when you can bump The Eminem Show, and feel like you just witnessed the greatest poet of our generation, rattle off about how his life is pretty much a TV drama for all of us to watch... Nah, bro...it’s cuz he’s white...Jay-Z da greatest ever...for marrying Beyonce? lmao
May 24, 2020 No jay z is the greatest ever because of his output. Eminem also is one of the greatest ever because of his earlier output. Of course his skin colour helped (he even admitted that himself lol) but obviously not just because of that
Jul 9, 2020 They usually base it on the quality and timelessness of the hits rather than how big the hits are. Nelly wounded up losing to Ludacris in a Versus battle even though his hits were bigger for instance. Eminem has a lot of big hits but not a lot of them have aged that well. Lose Yourself and Stan aged well but other hit songs of his are hit or miss. If it were strictly based on hits alone, Flo-Rida and Pitbull would mop the floor with 90% of rappers but it's more complex than that.
Jul 9, 2020 But stan isnt a hit in the way the game is meant to be. Is about bangers what I heard. So eminem is not one of the best in that department. Stan is 10/10 but not a party hit... just like sing for the moment, white america and 90% of his classics Pitbull would win against everyone tbh with those rules
Jul 9, 2020 Em don’t make you blast his music lol he’s a, private headphone listening kinda dude. He’d die in a versus
Jul 9, 2020 Am I the only one one who enjoyed Em's verse on Lean Back?! Lmao that was drugged up Em with that Encore voice which I miss with a club verse. I always liked it for the appearance not for the verse. Would love to hear the other 30 versions.
