Top 10 rapper of the past decade, perhaps even top 5. I don't think he's necessarily slept on cuz he's lauded by critics and fans alike, but a lot of his music has a ceiling for how popular it can be. But I think he does have a little untapped potential for scoring some minor radio hits based upon some of the more singsongy stuff he's done.

For a rapper you would consider top 10 or top 5, doesn't the fact that most of his best tracks have 300k-400k views make him underrated?

Especially when you look at other rappers like Kendrick, J Cole etc.. Those guys have tens of millions, even hundred million views on their videos.

For someone as good as Gibbs, 250k subs on your official Youtube channel is low imo.

And personally, I feel like Freddie Gibbs has more catchy/radio friendly songs than J Cole for example. But that's just my oppinion of course.

He doesn't have the crossover appeal that Kendrick and J. Cole do. Most people who keep up on music but aren't super into rap are into artists like Cole, Kendrick, Tyler the Creator, Kanye.

The only crossover appeal Gibbs has is with the anthony fantano type music nerds who only listen to madlib, death grips, and tyler the creator when it comes to rap (and even then they only listen to piñata and bandana).

    Fair enough.

I think Gibbs makes more catchy music than J Cole for example. Stuff that has more mainstream appeal but I guess most people don't think so judging by the views.

I mean, just the first track that I posted. Breaking Bad. How is that not a huge hit? It's definitely radio friendly. 200k views for something that good is a shame.

Well I mean that's an unofficial upload from three years after BFK came out, and unfortunately 2012 is during that time right before streaming started getting popular where a lot of music that could have been huge hits got lost in the free mixtape shuffle. Rap had largely moved on from that type of hit at that point as well.

I don't really like J. Cole but lyrically especially he's definitely more consumer friendly than Gibbs is

Your 3 letter word response has provided me some amazing insight.

Thank you for blessing my thread with your presence as that is one of the greatest honors a mere peasant like myself can receive.

He's a contender for best rapper in the game right now. Freddie Gibbs and Griselda were the standouts in 2020. Good to see traditional types of hip hop flourishing.
