I thought this was going to be an all out left-driven mainstream slander war on Em; most of the r-----ed negative views so far, including Fantano - focus on their disapproval of Eminem's opinions and a lot are clearly driven by the Tyler line and 'Eminem is on the wrong side, let's get him' kind of vibe right now. These guys nail it: "beyond the dull, drama-less rut that was 2017’s “Revival,” and into the fresher, freakier waters of ‘Kamikaze,” his surprise album drop at August’s end." ...fresh, freaky... Yes. And very great point here not often made: "So who does Eminem save deep and abiding respect for? Women. Trump-dissing comedian Kathy Griffin gets a shout-out on the title track with “Kathy Griffin, stackin’ ammunition / Slap the clip and c--- it back on competition.” Soulful flavor-of-the-moment (deserved) Canadian Jessie Reyez gets a back-to-back crack at Skylar Grey glory on two tracks themed around toxic masculinity, “Nice Guy,” then “Good Guy.” Em then goes in for the meta self-commentary of “Normal.” As he has been insistently accused of deeply vicious misogyny in his lyrics, the jaw-dropping mea culpa of “I slipped up and busted her jaw with a Louisville Slugger,” and its squirrelly rationalization (“it really does make our love for each other grow stronger”) may not allow you to see him as any less vile. Yet, when coupled with the aforementioned “Guy” tracks, you sense that Eminem has grown into an ominously social-satirical critic (or critique) of the misogyny for which he’s been deservedly accused." ...That's a great point. Sifting his real intent from his satire of himself... they really get it. As opposed to total literal, surface spaz tards who just hear angry delivery. I feel like Kam is being well received by hip-hop community as a whole but there's some total tard publications which aren't even downgrading the music, not commenting on the album, vibes, song making, nothing but Eminem's opinions. Hopefully the rap community let's Marshall know loud and clear that this album is legit. Don't go back to fkn Skylar please.

Sep 4, 2018 Same with everyone though. Sales don't matter then people use sales as a rebuttal about an album they like/critics don't matter but then people use reviews as a rebuttal about an album they like. It's rampant here as well.

Sep 4, 2018 Nope. I clearly broke down why I am saying the reviews are bad. Because they are almost entirely consumed with Eminem's opinions and whether they agree with him or not. That's not a review of an album. Absolutely no problem at all with someone who just doesn't like the music. But rating an album by whether you agree with the opinions expressed is ridiculous. It's supposed to be a review of execution of what was wanting to be expressed... whether you agree with it or not. "The Sopranos is a s--- TV show because I disagree with Tony Soprano!"

Sep 5, 2018 Eminem’s excuses for Revival ARE very lame though. Fantano was spot-on with that. And that’s aside the sonic problems this record has, and the incoherent structure with regards to the overall theme. Get over it man.
Sep 5, 2018 I agree @ em's excuses for revival are lame. But that's not a reason to downgrade a song or an album, that's ridiculous. Kanye's claims that he is a god were also ridiculous, it's irrelevant to whether the song / execution is good or not.
Sep 5, 2018 Kanye's claims were more in the abstract sense, the song is about self-empowerment. Eminem literally meant all of his excuses. However, assuming for a second this parallel holds true, the reviews I have heard/read did mostly touch on the song execution as well (as in: that awkward hook on stepping stones, cramming too many rhymes in a bar, poor song sequencing overall, the jarring intro to nice guy). Fantano said it perfectly, contemporary hip-hop is multifaceted, it's not solely about lyricism (at least not as much as 15 years ago), and Eminem falls short on almost all aspects other than his technical proficiency.
