Aug 18, 2015 Hey pals. With no distinction between male and female, what are the greatest FILM PERFORMANCES of all time? Give me your top ten in order of preference. I am friends with Rod Lurie on FB, and took this idea from mine. Pretty tough, obviously up to immense debate. Mine, tentatively: 1. Brando, Last Tango 2. Jack Nicholson, Five Easy Pieces 3. Brando, On the Waterfront 4. Paul Newman, The Hustler 5. Hoffman, Capote 6. Pacino, Godfather II 7. DDL, There Will Be Blood 8. Karloff, Bride of Frankenstein 9. Gloria Swanson, Sunset Blvd. 10. Denzel, Philadelphia @Dew (you better f---ing do this, i swear to f---ing god) @JASON @Bleed @Twan @Narsh @irbis @Charlie Strangelove @FilmAndWhisky @CreativeSXN
Aug 18, 2015 Like u said its really tough and I m at work now so I can't All I know is the two performances that have had the most impact on me at this point in my life are Deniro in Taxi Driver and Raging Bull so i was just really surprised not to see him mentioned at all
Aug 18, 2015 method doesn't do much for me after awhile -- ddl was a last minute insertion. its Very Loud Look I'm Acting. also, tbh, iconic isn't the purpose of the thread, ya know? but agreed. i'm still debating now putting spencer tracy in there. or cary grant. etc
Aug 18, 2015 Daniel day Lewis at 7 and psh at 5? I've only seen capote once, and liked it. But maybe I missed something because though Hoffman did a great job playing Truman capote, I think Daniel day Lewis was >>>>
Aug 18, 2015 What distinguishes what Hoffman does in capote with ddl and deniro? Also, there's nothing "loud" about DeNiro's approach to taxi driver was there?
Aug 18, 2015 In no particular order Robert De Niro Raging Bull Al Pacino The Godfather Part II Tom Hanks Forrest Gump Denzel Washington Training Day Russell Crowe Gladiator Daniel Day-Lewis There Will Be Blood Matthew McConaughey Dallas Buyers Club Leonardo DiCaprio The Wolf of Wall Street Ryan Gosling Half Nelson Liam Neeson Schindler's List
Aug 18, 2015 i think hoffman is more subtle in general travis bickle r is a very loud performance lol -- he's playing a psycho. its a great example of the craft (i.e. performance of acting) overwhelming the character. also why i cant f--- with performances like Jake Gyllenhaal in nightcrawler @Packman -- i'd say boys town, but tbh he's great in captains courageous despite playing a Portuguese fisherman
Aug 18, 2015 Not sure about my top ten but: Tom Hanks - Cast Away Will Smith - The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds Eminem - 8 Mile Daniel Radcliffe - The whole Harry Potter Saga
Aug 18, 2015 Tom Hanks - Saving Private Ryan Marshall Mathers - 8 Mile Anthony Hopkins- Silence of the Lambs and the answer to the thread... Everyone on The Shawshank Redemption
Aug 18, 2015 10.Robin Willams -Mrs.Doubtfire 9.Stallone-Rocky (Not the best acting but very powerful character) 8.Kathy Bates - Misery 7.Russell Crowe- Gladiator 6. Leo - The Departed 5.Denzel- Training Day 4. Morgan Freeman -Shawshank 3.Jack Nicholson - The Shining 2.Al Pacino- Godfather 1.Tom Hanks- Forest Gump
Aug 18, 2015 Isk I guess we have different tastes then -- I absolutely adore acting like DDL in TWBB, gangs of New York, and Lincoln, gyllenhaal in night crawler, MM in everything he's doing nowadays, DiCaprio in Wolf or Django, Bale in American Psycho Ooo DeNiro in King of Comedy is also f---ing amazing b
