Jun 11, 2015 I've always thought that Eminem's biggest problem since his hiatus has been his lack of self-awareness when it comes to judging his own music. I honestly believe he has a great/classic album somewhere in the vault, but is completely clueless as to which songs are actually great. I'm curious as to what you guys think about this theory...Does Eminem actually know that Deja Vu and Going Through Changes are his top 2 songs post-hiatus and he just lacks the ability to consistly make songs this good or is he delusional and truly believes that songs like Not Afraid and Survival are great, while songs like Cocaine and Groundhog Day are inferior?
Jun 11, 2015 The confidence in Survival is so cringeworthy, it seems like he actually thought he was making a great song
Jun 11, 2015 Maybe he never chosed the songs himself, and now that he is doing it don't know what to do.
Jun 11, 2015 His problem is that he doesn't trust his instinct anymore ever since Relapse tanked After that effort was a failure, he started depending on the opinions of everybody in his circle for the type of music he creates Do you really think he cared what Rosenberg thought when he recorded the warning?
Jun 11, 2015 I don't know man, i truly think that he always wants to surprise his listeners by using the type of beats that no one expects, so sometime it sounds grood (groundhog day) and most of the time it doesn't (won't back down for example). But we can't deny that he tries hard to revive his style by trying lot of things, and that he doesn't sound like any other rapper
Jun 11, 2015 I think he lost some ability or something has changed. Maybe I am just being optimistic but it is hard to believe he doesn't have more songs that didn't make his albums cuts that aren't on the caliber of lets say...Deja Vu, Going Through Changes, Cocaine, The Warning, Careful What You Wish For, My Darling, Space Bound, Beautiful, Seduction, Brainless, Groundhog Day, Beautiful Pain, My Mom, and Fine Line. I consider all of those songs pretty d--- great if you ask me.
Jun 11, 2015 Yes he has. Eminem has become way too obsessed with technical rap as well as being lazy & just getting beats with pop hooks. I remember he was talking about Slaughterhouse & technical rap before & it was cringeworthy. Since Recovery he still makes these mostly terrible Rap/Pop records that are about 5 years dated now.
Jun 11, 2015 Maybe he's just too often in the studio. You know when you overdo something, and sometimes get worst at it or start to lose the ability to recognize what is good? Sometimes you need to back away for a while and do something else and comeback with a clear head.
