I only discover music in a few ways now, and it's generally not even actually "new", just to me
    • random post catches my eye during one of my infrequent facebook visits
    • i'm riding with someone in their car for some reason and they play something either on the radio or from their phone
    • i go out of my way to check the iTunes charts for the electronic/dance/pop categories
    • something on here manages to catch my eye

    MTY VERY SHALLOW LISTENING

    May 31, 2015
    • reddit.com/r/indieheads and the friends and whatnot I've met from there
    • Other forums like here, OFT, and KTT
    • Random searches
That's about it as far as I can tell.

Used to be from the radio but lately it's been from forums and people recommendations.
For metal, I just went through ever genre in wikipedia one time and got around 60 bands from that

I got a lot of new music from this one forum I was on. Most of it is foreign.
So I like forums. Partially why I joined this one.
For a lot of alternative or electronic-influenced music I listen to, I just search artists similar to the ones I already like.
Sometimes my friends show me new stuff as well. Usually hip hop.

I always have to find myself catching up on an artist's old works if I never listened to them before, so that's kind of daunting sometimes. So then I get stuck on my few favs.

RateYourMusic. Find something I like and look for more in the genre, find interesting lists made by other users, search by the decade, etc.

/mu/. Download whatever looks cool in the sharethread. Search for Mega links in the archive.

Usually the cover art of a random artist catches my eye and I give it a listen. That's how I discovered Acid Rap. It had just cake out and was on datpiff's new tapes section

I did make a soundcloud account for this purpose, but hardly ever go on it. :'(

I'd say social media is my main go, and this forum.

Whenever new stuff comes out, I always listen

Other than that, I just find it on my own through either radio or friends

Most of the time from Radio 1. Zane Lowe introduced me to a lot of new music during his time there. When there'd be a great song I'd always Google the artist.

Sometimes from a friend who points me in the direction of an artist, or if I hear a background/credit song on a film/tv show.
