Oct 8, 2015 UPDATE: i f----- up the title and I can't figure out how to edit it on my tablet. How Kendrick Lamar is a Writer at Heart "Let 'em reveal how much it cost for this life controlling my vice. No way h--- no, uh uh, if I'm wrong, I don't want to be right" I don't want to be right has 2 meanings 1. The opposite of wrong is right (literal meaning) 2. And right as in the phrase 'right in the head' (abstract) ?
Oct 8, 2015 TPAB is full of metaphors, double extendres, references to other artists, past songs, history, real life, etc. Only a writer rather than say a 'rapper' (also writes lyrics) would create music that includes elements of english that typically writers of books use, but in his lyrics
Oct 8, 2015 Understandable...I was hoping to get into more of a discussion about it...wish I had more time right now, but maybe later.
Oct 8, 2015 i think you're ironically simplifying what it means to be a "rapper" and "writer" too much
Oct 8, 2015 but yea kendrick is usually a great writer. but there are examples on TPAB itself where he's WAY too heavy handed and lacks any sense of subtlety
Oct 8, 2015 I agree but i think this album was made with a specific audience in mind. Youth from the projects. So, that logically evens it.
Oct 8, 2015 nah it doesnt "logically even out" him rapping about a bum @ a gas station actually being jesus
Oct 8, 2015 I share some of the same sentiments. TPAB is like a book english professors ask students to read and he made it that way on purpose. It's so dense which is why I love it so much. But it's not cool to like stuff that doesn't sound good viscerally so shhh
Oct 8, 2015 Of course you got Nas, the Roots, etc I'm more so referring to the use of the English language than content
Oct 8, 2015 What does that prove? That he's not logical? That's not the point of this album is it.. ? As i've said he paints a stronger picture for those who also go through a harder struggle.
Oct 8, 2015 TPAB is an album he made for "his homies in prison". It's supposed to be picked apart. Essentially the concept of this album is thoughts in his head after getting signed. This is why in the album packaging reveals, "A Blank Letter By Kendrick Lamar". It's stuff in his head as opposed to GKMC being a short film. Which is why GKMC is generally more well received because it is more accessible to the average listener and not as self-serious/ thought-provoking
