I Went To Harry Mack's Show Last Night

    Who? Harry Mack's been mentioned a few times on the forum, but if you haven't had an opportunity to check him out, peep some of the videos at the bottom. He's a freestyle rapper, famous from his youtube channel where he surfs Omegle and freestyles for the people on there...

    I went to his show out in San Diego last night and it was essentially 60 minutes of straight freestyling. He entered through the crowd and spit, using individual audience members as motivation/reference. The show itself consisted of him rapping about words & topics that the audience submitted, tossed up on the stage screen as he went. Most impressive was that as he went, he created a hook using the words tossed at him that he revisited throughout the improvised "song"...Incredibly talented guy. One of the best freestylers that I've come across. Def check him out if he's touring near you.

    That's awesome that you went, I was thinking of going when he comes to Portland but not sure I'll be able to make it. Been checking him out for a while, he's been getting better lately imo...he's crazy good.

    so all audience members submit words before the show and he uses all of them? What was your word or words?

    Def do it. The ticket prices here weren't bad -- $30.

    They tossed up a QR code on the screen just prior to him coming on set. Took you to a page where you could submit a word + a topic. There were ~700 people at the show, so no way to use all of them, but his DJ would toss em up on the screen as he went. Probably got through maybe 30 words/topics throughout the set. The submissions went all the way up to when he came on, so there wouldn't have really been any time for him to pen something (if anybody doubts his full freestyling capabilities).

    H.Mack is one of the best freestyle rappers out there for sure, I was so impressed when I saw him freestyle in front of Kendrick and Joey Badass back in the day. I follow him on FB, his Omegle Bars series is amazing.

    Him going off the top > some rappers writtens easily.

    he's a great guy too, check out this last one starting around the 14 min mark..the part i'm referring to starts around the 18 min mark though. He does this 2nd freestyle for a guy who lost his wife to covid..it's far from his best rhyme or anything but still really cool to see, and helped the guy out it seems.



    and if ppl are interested, here's a few more I like. Most of the omegle bars are awesome, always interesting to see the other people's reactions to it also.

    Wow @Kon this one was pretty emotional (fiance loss of covid) d---. Harry just switched from Yoda Dark Streets into this, shiiiit. You can tell man was happy about it. Amazing, I wish more rappers were like that

    He’s brilliant, I’ve been following him for years, I think his YT videos must be in the thousands now rather than hundreds. Crazy talented and so quick thinking. It’s not only that he rhymes whatever word is thrown at him, he actually includes related stuff. Like in one of the omegle videos the other dude suddenly holds up a spoon in front of the camera and Harry immediately went into 6 bars about The Matrix (there is no spoon etc).

    I can’t remember if it was the Kendrick or Joey Badass videos (or another one) where they say chemist or chemistry and he within a second delivers a bar about Walter White (Breaking bad)…. Insane talent!

    There's 1,000 rappers out there that can toss a random given word into their freestyle, but 99% of the time it'll be 1, maybe 2 bars most. Mack stays on topic for 20 bars before moving onto the next one. Guy's on another playing field.

    He’s certainly talented but it’s the type of thing I’d only care to listen to live at a show or maybe watch a few YouTube videos and be satisfied. def cool/impressive but not my thing personally

    part of the show i nabbed a recording of. hook on the spot, verses, came back to the hook...i believe he kept going with add'l verses as well, but i just wanted to enjoy the show at that point and stopped recording.

    i was hoping that he'd been working on some proper tracks and that he'd perform those at the show, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I think there's an untapped market for what he's doing and he's in a unique position to make it happen, but performing freestyle shows is a difficult path to getting the recognition and fame that I think he probably deserves.. albums & hits & tracks is where it's always been at. I really hope that he can break the mold and make this process work for him to blow up though because he's incredibly talented. Until then, I'll continue to go down the rabbit hole of his youtube videos.

    Admittedly, I was stan'ing meeting him after the show (he was signing autographs and taking photos and saying whattup and whatnot).

    lol a fish trapped in a fish tank, funny idea from the fan..but yea that was good @Slyk .

    btw i'm curious i saw on the ticket page for the Portland show that it said Mack goes on for an hour and then there's a DJ after for like another half hour or so? do people actually stick around for that? i'd imagine the place must clear out for the most part after Harry's done, or maybe that closing DJ is just as people leave etc?

    *edit* here's what i meant, it's an hour apparently. I'm guessing it's just for people to hang out, eat/drink still if they want or something. or is that when Harry takes pics/signs autographs etc?

    10:00-11:00 - Harry Mack + DJ Surjazz
    11:00-? Mack & Fatts doing autographs, pitching swag, taking photos
