Apr 21, 2017 MMLP2 1st week sales: 792,000 copies (#1 on Billboard 200) 2nd week sales: 210,000 copies (-73%) - biggest down / flop in Eminem's career (and #2 on Billboard 200) Interscope then realized that the time of Eminem was over and stopped his promo. This situation is similar to the one when 50 Cent lost in the battle of the albums Kanye West in September 2007. MMLP2 - The worst album in Eminem's career from a commercial point of view. "MMLP2" get 4x platinum after 3.5 years after release = flop. Drake - "Views" get 4x platinum after 0.5 years after release = win. "Recovery" get 4x platinum after 1.5 years after release = win. ----------------------- Recovery 1st week sales: 741,000 copies (#1 on Billboard 200) 2nd week sales: 313,000 copies (-57,5%) (#1 on Billboard 200) Relapse 1st week sales: 608,000 copies (#1 on Billboard 200) 2nd week sales: 211,000 copies (-65%) (#1 on Billboard 200) Relapse was better, than MMLP2 () --------------------------- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (movie) 1st week: The film grossed $166 million in the USA & Canada 2nd week sales: overall 68.4% drop for the weekend despite not "facing any big competition at the box office" -------------------------- ShadyXV 1st week: 138,000 copies (#3 on Billboard 200) 2nd week: 28,000 copies (-80%) (#21 on Billboard 200) Southpaw OST 1st week: 45,000 copies (including streams - 32,000 pure album sales) (#5 on Billboard 200) 2nd week: 15,500 copies (including streams - for a total 60,500 copies)(-66%) (#41 on Billboard 200) Who remembers the soundtrack for the movie 8 Mile? --------------- 2nd week sales (dynamics in percent): Recovery>Relapse>Southpaw OST>Batman v Superman(movie)>MMLP2>ShadyXV Eminem repeats the fate of 50 cent on Interscope. And no one is worried about Shady Records (and G-Unit Records) label there after 2007.
Apr 21, 2017 or it's just cause both those albums were bad so no one was saying "you gotta listen to this new s---" people actually enjoyed recovery and the good feedback probably promoted second week sales
Apr 21, 2017 Still, platinum in two weeks is great. Drake did better numbers once and after that no one else has even been close.
Apr 21, 2017 I think people are underestimating the influence Em will have once he drops, especially if he goes the route of a big singer on the chorus of the single With streams, his numbers will be absolutely crazy, and you can't really debate that
Apr 21, 2017 idk i know em been real bad lately but he treats his albums a lot differently i'm hoping for as long as we have waited he has actually been crafting something nice, not classic but nice. that being said he probably polishing off a taco bell 12 pack rn and watching ESPN
Apr 21, 2017 LOL. Eminem has what I call 'ghost fans'. People who listen to him secretly but won't ever talk about him in public. So even though it looks like his fan base is dwindling, all it takes is 1 single and the thirsty fans will come up for air. Also comparing MMLP2 and views is r-----ed considering streams didn't count then. Of course his career is approaching the end, everything comes to an end but hes not going down easily, he's in his mid-forties in an industry that worships youth, but he's holding his own. Is there another artist on interscope that can move more units than em presently? are kendrick's 1st week numbers in?
Apr 21, 2017 Campaign Speech got like 10 million views in 1 day and any conversation of him has him breaking the internet. And 790 pure sales in the first week is far from a flop lol. His second week in pure sales is the same as many major rappers first week. Just because he's been quiet doesn't mean he isn't the biggest rapper in the world. I shudder to think what SPS is gonna do for Eminem's numbers in 2017, especially considering all the closet fans and everyone who claims to dislike the guy are all the first to know about his newest material.
