    Imo it isn't

Lets say 2 avid rap fans decided to rap and put 500 hours into making rap music. One would obviously come out after the 500 mark as superior but why? Well its simply because they took the necessary steps to become a good musician, whether that was learning music theory, or studying the legends whatever you want it to be while the other was making music never releasing it = never getting feedback = never incredibly improving.

Talent isn't real. Some are predisposed to certain things that would greatly benefit their chances of being what they want to be. For example Earl Sweatshirts dad was a poet, so he was exposed to writing poetry early on, this doesn't mean he was born good at writing poetry but he is looked at as one of the most talented rappers today.

IMO 'Talent' is used for 2 reasons. Firstly as a common excuse to never try anything because other people are better than you are at it and secondly to put others down so you can make yourself feel superior.

Talent exists in rap differently than it does in other genres

I would say that talent in rap is based more on flow and your skill as a poet than anything else.

And sometimes, you either have it or you don't.
Talent in R&B is based on your skill as a vocalist, how well you can sing. Your delivery, if you will. You're talking a different type of talent when you're talking rap.

Not that hard to understand that you don't judge every genre on the ability to vocalize.

Lol that makes no sense, there's a lot of artists trying and they're failing because they lack talent, it doesn't matter how much you "practise" if it's just not a natural thing that comes through your music.
I mean I see your point but it still goes deeper than that

See this is where it gets confusing though, on one hand you can be born with a good voice but you're still gonna need to learn how to sing, on the other hand you can be born with an average voice and become a great singer. Neither one of those scenarios has to do with talent, talent imo is more luck than anything. Its 'I was born with athletic genes so I can be a great football player' or whatever the case may be.

Interesting thread, i like your perspective. I'm inclined to agree with your opinion... Although, how would you describe a person who's never been predisposed to something that would benefit them but they're still extremely talented?
Example - somebody who's never sang before but opens their mouth and has incredible vocal range with a high level of controlling it.

I don't know how realistic that scenario is so I don't know honestly

Yeah no I feel you but that 'it' imo has more to do with years of listening to music and subconsciously taking notes

Like listen to Kendricks first tape, its not horrible but its not as good as many others debut tapes.
