Jun 16, 2017 Matt Hughes hasn’t fought in the UFC since 2011, but he held the welterweight championship for two stints during the mid-2000's and is considered one of the greatest fighters of all-time in the 170-pound division. He beat MMA legend Royce Gracie and is one of two people ever to defeat Georges St-Pierre in the octagon. This afternoon, UFC czar Dana White announced that Hughes was involved in a collision with a moving train near his home in Illinois. According to White, Hughes suffered some degree of head trauma and was airlifted to a hospital. It’s not clear exactly what state he is in, but his family is headed to meet him, per White. We’ll update this post as more information becomes available. http://deadspin.com/ufc-icon-matt-hughes-airlifted-to-hospital-after-crashi-1796175698

Jun 16, 2017 Update, 4:20 p.m. EDT: Local TV station WAND-17 has a few more details: ISP officials say the crash happened on Beelers Trail in Montgomery County at about 10:45 a.m. According to the preliminary investigation into the crash, a truck was traveling east on Beelers Trail when it crossed a set of railroad tracks, directly in front of a train. The train struck the passenger side of the truck.
Jun 16, 2017 d---, hope he pulls through. Hughes is a top 10 fighter in UFC history. Probably the face of it behind Chuck and Tito at some point.
