Floyd Mayweather revealed he will fight Andre Berto on Showtime PPV on September 12.

Mayweather insisted on the post-fight broadcast immediately after his May 2 win over Manny Pacquiao that his next fight would be the last of his career (via Sports Illustrated): "My last fight is in September, then it's time for me to hang it up. You know, I'm almost 40 years old now, I've been in the sport 19 years, I've been world champion for 18 years, and I'm truly, truly thankful and I'm blessed."

Mayweather's bout on Sept. 12 will be his last under the terms of a six-fight contract with Showtime Sports—a subsidiary of CBS. Lyle Fitzsimmons of Bleacher Report and CBS Sports reported on July 8 that Mayweather's next fight could be broadcast on CBS, which would have been unique simply because of how revenue works in boxing, with fighters collecting portions of pay-per-view buys as part of their deals; however, Mayweather's announcement confirms the fight will be done in the same format that has generated so much money in the past.

Mayweather does not seem to be in desperate need for money, as ESPN.com's Darren Rovell and Dan Rafael reported the undefeated champion walked away from his fight with Pacquiao making at least $220 million.
8/6/2015 - Mayweather speaks on matchup with Andre Berto, discusses Ronda Rousey.

I knew this fight was coming but it's not on CBS? Lol. I understand this is a tune up for number 50(Pacman 2, GGG?) but this might be the first Mayweather PPV fight I don't order.

Yeah everything I've read so far says it will be a Showtime PPV. I think you're right about it being a tuneup, I just doubt he will actually fight GGG for #50 unless he comes down to Floyd's weight.

Well of course he'd have to come down. I think Floyd Sr mentioned 154 WITH a re-hydration clause.

What's a re-hydration clause? Does it mean GGG would have to be 154 going into the ring, not just at the weigh in?

I'm so glad Thurman didn't get the fight. That dude is so arrogant and looked like absolute s--- in his last fight. I think he picked Berto because there's a pretty good chance Floyd will knock him out.

From what I understood he'd be able to rehydrate up to 165 or so on fight night as opposed to his typical 170-180.

As a fan who wants him to get win #50, I somewhat agree, but it's hard to argue that he's the best challenger out there. If he does take a GGG fight and wins, it would silence almost every single person who's questioned the quality of his opponents over the last few years.

He would get stomped by a bigger man at the top of his game and make less money than he would against any hispanic fighter. He wins and they say GGG got found out against his first tough test. He loses and people bring it up forever while his fans chalk it up to the size difference. It's a no win situation for him. He's already had the fight of his lifetime, he's undefeated and about to break a "record" (Ricardo Lopez ftw) before retiring. He's passed his prime and still on top of the world. Not to mention GGG needs to work on his own weight class (which Mayweather nor Ward are a part of btw). It doesn't make a lick of sense except to the fan who just wants to see it and that's not how boxing works at all.

I truly believe he took this fight to try to get it on PBC as a thank you to Al Haymon for the Pacquiao fight and all the help he's been. Unfortunately, those discussions buckled (probably thanks to Showtime) and now we're getting a hilarious PPV against possibly the worst opponent Mayweather has faced since he was a contender. It's a laughable and silly matchup on his way to 50-0. Amir Khan gets some of the blame for being a little pussball on social media and ruining any possible negotiations that Floyd would bring to him. Oh well.

Anyway, this fight sparking more discussion than Rigo-Loma makes me sad. That's a superfight that's actually happening and the casual fan has never heard of either of them.

All good points but I think Berto got this fight because 1. It'll be easy 2. Berto's been extremely loyal to Haymon and 3. Apparently there's some really bad blood between the Mayweather and Berto. Hopefully that will show in the lead up to the fight and Mayweather won't be boring as f---.

Berto went on TMZ and says Floyd has been harassing him over the phone over his relationship with one of his Ex-Ladies.

Berto appeared on “TMZ Hollywood Sports” on Wednesday and told us that he respects Floyd as a f!ghter — but he’s sick of all the drama that’s been going on outside the ring.

Berto says he’s more frustrated with the wave of harassing phone calls he’s received lately … and he’s convinced Mayweather is the one behind the telephonic hostility.

“I know it’s him on the other line. I can hear him breathing.”

So, why would Floyd do it? Berto suggested Floyd is upset with him over an issue involving a woman.
Sources connected to the situation tell us … Mayweather is upset that Berto is friendly with his ex-fiancee Shantel Jackson and her new boyfriend Nelly.

Sounds like lazy propaganda. Tons of people hate Mayweather. They, and Berto especially, still have zero leverage in getting a fight with him at this point. There's a reason Floyd's opponent got announced so close to the fight that there's no build up: to prevent backlash. @M Solo

Berto is in Khan's camp. They're training partners. Floyd did this as a f--- you. Haymon owns Khan and is using him as a stepping stone because he isn't worth Floyd fighting him. He'll get a bigger split of the purse with Berto which will offset the difference in PPV numbers. That's why Khan recently said he'd fight Floyd for peanuts. Khan shot himself in the foot by taking stuff to the press because Floyd never does things that way.

I get why he picked Berto, but he still should have given Thurman a shot. Best case scenario the tension between them causes Floyd to come out aggressive and try to finish the fight early.

Mayweather Speaks on Upcoming Matchup with Andre Berto, discusses Ronda Rousey.

Floyd said he chose Berto to please the fans who thought his fight with Pac was boring, and because of Andre's aggresive style he thinks this will make for a much more exciting fight.

On Ronda he said, "when she makes 300 million in 36 minutes, then she can come talk to me."
