Dec 10, 2016 #1: Savage Mode - 21 Savage This album goes stupid front to back. 21 Savage has had the most unexpected come up of 2016 without a doubt. The intro to this tape starts us out right and gets us to the two best songs of the album and then the title track. Metro's production on this is godly, from No Heart being on some slow menacing s--- to X sounding like the Devil's elevator music to h---. 21 Savage fits over all the beats perfectly and even gets introspective on songs like Ocean Hill Drive and Feel it. Future as the sole feature absolutely kills his verses on X and the outro to that song is hard as s---. Consistency front and back with not a single weak track making it my top album of the year. 9/10 #2: Purple Reign - Future Coming off 2015, Future was pretty much put into the arena of stadium status rappers. He was poppin everywhere and nobody could get enough. So Future gave us more music. Purple Reign isn't a perfect project, and honestly it has a handful of skipable tracks. The reason why it's listed so high are because the highs are really f---ing high. Wicked is an absolute b-----r that got some serious radio play, it's sensational. Perkys Calling, Purple Reign, Drippin and No Charge are some of Future's best songs to date. It has glimpses of R&B Future we became fans of while still keeping the sound of 2015 that made him so big. 8.5/10 #3: Birds in the Trap sing Mcknight - Travis Scott First and foremost, Rodeo is an absolute classic. s--- banged front to back. BITTSM is La Flame's second offering. I didn't expect it till 2018 honestly, but Travis came through. It's filled with alot of great s--- like The Ends (Andre bagawd) and Sweet Sweet. Way Back and Through The Night along with Wonderful are the highlights in my opnion. But to me, what made this album were the features. I don't think a single one was weak. I thought every song that had a feature they generally outperformed Travis and made the song even better. Thats not to take away from Travis, he did his thing. But overall I think the features made this a top 5 album. 21 Savage's verse, Tiller's verse, Weeknd's to name some of the highlights. Solid album with a few meh tracks. 8/10 #4: Starboy - The Weeknd I honestly didn't think this album would make my top 5 or 10 or 15 or f---ing 25 for that matter. I wasn't impressed by many of the tracks. I liked the Future ones (big shocker there) and the title track. That was about it. Once the album dropped I figured I'd give it one more shot. What I got were massive homage vibes to MJ and I honestly began to like some of the tracks. False alarm started sounding good, Party Monster was a party anthem. Some of the tracks on here I still hate like Rockin and Stargirl, but overall this album is really good. The track I hated the most, I Feel It Coming is now probably my favorite. I just love the MJ vibes, I feel like in previous albums Weeknd has been trying to distance himself from those comparisons but I feel like he finally embraced them and put out a solid project. 8/10 #5: EVOL - Future Following Purple Reign's success, Future decided to f--- around and drop an entire album not even two weeks after a mixtape. This album is straight up slaps front to back. That's literally it, no depth just f---ing whip banging music. f--- it, we all need s--- like that in our life. Maybach? Slap. Xanny Family? Slaps. Program? Slap ya baby momma. Seven Rings? Slaps so hard you caught an assault charge. Aside from Low Life (kinda introspective), this is just pure consistent slap. Idk what else to say about this. 8/10 HR: Blonde by Frank Ocean, Sun's Tirade by Isaiah Rashad, Still Brazy by YG
Dec 10, 2016 To make sure you had no competition you went ahead and named Blonde an HM to show us yeah I heard it but I like two 5/10 future projects and a bottom tier Travis project more
Dec 10, 2016 I don't even get your ratings. How does something with a handful of skippable tracks (in your own words) end up as the second best project of the year..... Confirmed you're still 12 and delete songs from projects
Dec 10, 2016 If Purple Reign has a handful of bad/skippable tracks, why would it be #2 and have a 8.5/10? I kinda like BITTSM now, but better than Starboy? nah.
Dec 10, 2016 the amount of projects released this year that were better than purple reign is so large idek where to begin from his peers to the genre as a whole and then every other genre just yikes lol how is your second best project oty gonna have a handful of skippable tracks
Dec 10, 2016 Explanation. I don't delete any tracks, I just don't really enjoy them when listening to the project.
Dec 10, 2016 You at least skip them a good amount of the time which makes your rating flawed to me. If you only listen to what you really like from the project and dismiss what you don't when it comes to rating the numbers are gonna be skewed If Wicked is a 10/10 for you and another song is a 0/10 that's just a 5/10 no matter how good wicked was because you gotta view it as a whole... Now of course you can fiddle with that a little and say well it was still cohesive sounding or this or that and i doubt you thought any were a literal 0/10 but you get the point im making. aproject with a handful of skippable tracks coming out to be #2?...
Dec 10, 2016 Never Forget, Bye Bye and Salute are all 3 skippable. That's 3 out of the 12 tracks that contain music. A high amount yes. But the remaining tracks I all rate very highly. Purple Reign, Perkys Calling, Dripping, No Charge and Wicked are all 9-10/10. Most of this tape I bump HEAVY and enjoy tf out of. Only those 3 I mentioned I have a problem with. And even then, the only garbage one is Never Forget imo.
