Great for him. Truth be told, I prefer It Was Written and even Stillmatic but Illmatic is undeniably his magnum opus.

i've always been really partial to stillmatic myself. But illmatic was an incredible project, esp considering how young he was at the time.

Classic album, but I tend to go back to Stillmatic more since it's more 2000s music.

Unpopular opinion, but I liked stillmatic & hip hop is dead both more than illmatic . As much as I have tried over the years I just never really liked illmatic. Maybe it’s because it became “the cool thing to say” that it was one of the greatest albums. So I just held a higher expectation that I never really got. It also came out 3 years after I was born. So it just always sounded outdated to me. As to where hip hop is dead came out when I was in high school.

Stillmatic's outro gets better every f---ing time I listen to it. But like you all said, "Illmatic" is empirically and undeniably his magnum opus. I can't contest that. For my ears though....whew. "Every Ghetto" rings in my ears so often without anyone ever bringing it up.
