Mar 24, 2021 Great for him. Truth be told, I prefer It Was Written and even Stillmatic but Illmatic is undeniably his magnum opus.

Mar 25, 2021 Unpopular opinion, but I liked stillmatic & hip hop is dead both more than illmatic . As much as I have tried over the years I just never really liked illmatic. Maybe it’s because it became “the cool thing to say” that it was one of the greatest albums. So I just held a higher expectation that I never really got. It also came out 3 years after I was born. So it just always sounded outdated to me. As to where hip hop is dead came out when I was in high school.
Mar 26, 2021 Stillmatic's outro gets better every f---ing time I listen to it. But like you all said, "Illmatic" is empirically and undeniably his magnum opus. I can't contest that. For my ears though....whew. "Every Ghetto" rings in my ears so often without anyone ever bringing it up.
