Dec 7, 2017 JOHN: You must be pretty excited to have a new album coming out. Tell me about it. EMINEM: I’ve been working on it for over a year. You know how it is—you make songs, and as you make the new ones, the old ones get old and you throw them out. The album is called Revival. It’s a reflection of where I’m at right now, but also I feel like what I tried to do was diversify. I’ve tried to make a little something for everyone.
Dec 7, 2017 JOHN: Who do you think is doing great stuff at the moment? EMINEM: J. Cole. Travis Scott. Kendrick is great. My friend Royce da 5’9″ is incredible. Joyner Lucas is really good. Tech N9ne, too.
Dec 7, 2017 EMINEM: For sure. There are ups and downs. I haven’t had a perfect career. I’ve put some albums out that, looking back, I’m not super proud of, but there’s also a lot of stuff that I am very proud of.
Dec 7, 2017 EMINEM: You’re not going to hit it every single time, and that’s why, when I record an album, I do probably close to 50 songs. Each song I record has to get better. If it’s not better than the last song that I made, it’ll usually linger for a couple of months, and then it’ll be put on the backburner, and then there’ll be another song that I do, and then it often doesn’t make it on the album.
Dec 7, 2017 EMINEM: Yeah, my manager. He and I go at it during the making of every album, and sometimes we’re on the same page and sometimes we’re not. He’s usually right about it, though. It’s just hard when you’ve spent so much time on something, writing and recording, laying the vocals, getting the hook right, getting the beat right, making everything sound right—you spent a freaking week trying to make it sound perfect, and someone comes along and shoots it down.
Dec 7, 2017 Not a terrible interview. Was hoping it would give a little more insight into the album but you know...surprises or whatever.
Dec 7, 2017 Good read. Just imagine how many potential classics they have in the vault (especially from the 2000-2002 era)
Dec 7, 2017 I have no idea why he hold Paul Rosenberg opinion is such high regard. No Hip Hop background just a former laywer. This is a huge problem. Just tell Paul to f--- off.
Dec 7, 2017 Here’s an idea Em, collab with those rappers u think are dope! Imagine Em x Travis ohhhhh lawd. It’s so frustrating he doesn’t work with people man. Time is getting on. Rapidly.
Dec 7, 2017 That's exactly what he did with MMLP2 and it turned out to be a failure of an album with no theme and no consistency. This makes me feel like this album will be all over the place. Trying to please everyone instead of just focusing on making good music and sticking with an overall sound that makes sense.
Dec 7, 2017 hardly any. Eminem has stated a few time during the recording of SSLP-TES pretty much everything he recorded for each album made it onto the final tracklist. I would say there's no more than 3 unreleased songs from each album.
