Jul 7, 2021 https://www.cnn.com/americas/live-news/haiti-president-assassinated-updates-intl/index.html "It is with deep sorrow that the Government of Haiti can confirm that President Moise has been assassinated. The attack occurred at the Presidential Palace at around 1:00am on July 7th. Although details are still emerging, at this time it can be confirmed that this was a highly coordinated attack by a highly trained and heavily armed group. Further details on the situation will be provided as soon as possible and we will ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are swiftly brought to justice. "Haiti has lost a true statesman who was committed to progressing our country’s democratic transition and fighting corruption. President Moise believed that Haiti could become a beacon of democracy and worked tirelessly to address serious systemic failures within Haiti, including reform of the constitution. He sought to distance himself from polarized Haitian politics and deliver lasting, meaningful change for the country in the face of powerful forces of resistance. "We urge Haitians to show restraint and maintain a peaceful environment over the coming days. We also call on the international community to launch an investigation into the assassination and for the United Nations to hold a Security Council meeting on Haiti as soon as possible. "President Moise died in defence of democracy and we have a duty to ensure his legacy is honored. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire nation, and with the family of the President and the First Lady."

Jul 7, 2021 Apparently there were accusations of widespread election fraud when Jovenel Moise initially won in 2015. A tribunal ruled in his favor that there was no widespread election fraud but that process took a year & thus delayed his presidency by a year. Moise claimed since his presidency was delayed by a year, he was owed another year to govern but his political opponents disagreed. This has led to unrest which the Moise government has put down with force that has drawn a lot of criticism. Moise’s government has also arrested many opposition political leaders who no longer accept him as the rightful president.
Jul 7, 2021 Yeah, I was just reading about that. I don't know enough about the situation and political parties in Haiti to have an opinion about the ruling or Moise's intentions but considering the opposition includes a militarized g--- led by a police officer...though we're obviously a more stable country it's still scary to think that we have a bunch of the same ingredients here w/r/t arguments over the validity of an election, militarized gangs, etc.
Jul 7, 2021 I my BIL is Haitian and his dad has been on the presidential security team for two assassinations. s-----y luck.
Jul 24, 2021 The clip from 1994 was Joe Biden explaining why he wouldn't vote to authorize Bill Clinton to invade Haiti with the US military. So, somehow the tweet is complaining about America occupying Haiti 100 years ago... and trying to slam Joe Biden for saying he wasn't for invading and occupying it again. Is there anything you buy into that isn't pretzel logic?
Jul 24, 2021 He was clearly saying he wouldn't care if the people of Haiti disappeared. He's a monster!
Jul 24, 2021 He was clearly saying he wasn't for Americans dying in an effort that doesn't benefit the US.
Jul 24, 2021 No, he said if Haiti were to fall into the sea, "it wouldn't matter a whole lot." He is a profoundly bigoted man.
Jul 24, 2021 No he said no matter what happened to Haiti... if it rose or sank... it wouldn't matter to the US's interest and President Clinton shouldn't spend blood or treasure there. He was right.
Jul 24, 2021 He was evaluating the worth of an entire people solely in terms of imperial interests, as you would expect a cold and calculating politician to do. Whether he was right or not is irrelevant. Truth is no defense of racism. Dance, monkey, dance!!!
Jul 24, 2021 If a President was exploring whether we should use the might of the US military to invade Iceland... and a Senator said... "Hey, I doesn't matter if Iceland sinks into the ocean or rises 300 feet... it has nothing to do with us." He isn't being racist against white people.
Jul 24, 2021 You're right. That isn't a racist remark, since it's impossible to be racist against white people. He let slip his true feelings about black people when he said he didn't care about the fate of an entire race. This was the only way he could vent his bigotry without overtly violating social norms.
Jul 24, 2021 Yeah... being against invading a black country with the military doesn't make you a racist. Dumb a---.
Jul 24, 2021 Trump and Biden were both high profile Democrats in 2008. What happened after Obama got the Democratic nomination for the President of the United States of America?
Jul 24, 2021 So? Obama is a corrupt politician, too. He doesn't care about black people. And he's only half black anyway.
