Aug 16, 2018 Rakim is one of my favorite MCs of all time, but this isn't a very fair comparison. Rakim releases an album once every 10 years. He barely even has a career anymore. Only his Legacy. And Eminem's career is still going, as is his legacy. So it's hard to compare something that's already over with something that's still going. Come back in 2 years and ask again.
Aug 16, 2018 This doesn't make any sense. People compare old/retired artists to modern artists all the time. It's not like both don't have a sizable discography by this point. They've both contributed both the best and basically all the good that they're going to contribute to music. There's no reason not to be able to compare them now.
Aug 16, 2018 Eminem has been literally ruining his own career for the past 2 years. He's still going, ain't no telling what his legacy will look like after he calls it quits lol.
Aug 16, 2018 Eh. Trash doesn't reduce what you've accomplished. OP isn't "which artist has the most consistently great discog without any hiccups" it's just which artist is better. A regular person interprets this as who has the most/best material and or who was the best artist at their respective bests. You're just making it too complicated for no reason
Aug 16, 2018 exactly i have not listen to a eminem album since eminem show and that was 2002 i think his best days are behind him.
Aug 16, 2018 I consider his "No Favors" verse on Big Sean's album the beginning of the end. Everything before that was half way decent. Even Recovery and The Southpaw OST. But man-oh-man. Even if he released the greatest album of all time at this point, he wouldn't salvage his career. It's like a roller coaster that doesn't go back up. Ever.
Aug 16, 2018 I like to complicate things. I can't compare the two. Rakim's prime was in the 80s when hip hop was only starting and the bar wasn't anywhere close as to what it was when Em had his breakthrough. All in all, I'd say Rakim is the better rapper and Eminem is the better artist.
Aug 16, 2018 Eminem as an MC s----s all over on Rakim tbh, Em s----s on most of rappers if we speak about rap skills... Eminem just can't make as many good songs as he used to.
Aug 16, 2018 rakim did a drop classic album in 1997 called the 18th letter and his prime extended into the 90's and it wasn't just the 80's also the bar was very high in the 80's krs-one slick rick nwa geto boys ll cool j kool g rap masta ace big daddy kane t la rock sliver fox pe beastie boys run dmc melle mel craig g
Aug 16, 2018 i just want to note rakim was doing lyrical textures that eminem uses today. and there is nothing em does that rakim can't do or has not already done before him.
Aug 16, 2018 I mean Rakim's great, but you can't deny how good Eminem is... I think he's better than ever if it comes to putting words together
Aug 16, 2018 Again, I can't get behind that. They're different eras. Different styles of rapping and different standards. Rakim's timeline be like: "Chilling like Pacino, k--- like DeNiro, Black Gambino, die like a hero" Eminem's timeline is full of wordplay: "You said you was king, you lied through your teeth For that, f--- your feelings Instead of getting crowned, you're getting capped"
Aug 16, 2018 I grew up listening to Eminem. I didn't find out about Rakim until I was like 16 and started getting into old shcool stuff. So I'd have to say Eminem, definitely. At least in my opinion. But Rakim is hip hop royalty. His influence alone is astonishing.
