the regular routine is "aoty", a few more listens, then move on. Some people have already stopped listening to 4 Your Eyes Only , Amerikkkan Badass, and Ross' album and have moved on to what's hot now. In this age where you can literally get a new album/track instantly, do you prefer hard worked on music that takes years to make like a Kendrick or Ye album or music that is a little more instant like Thugga or Future?

Its not even about if they are party tracks or not. My point is this. When was the last time you listen to, idk, Culture or whatever. And Playboi Carti dropped. Of course your on Carti because its new and hot, but you'll most likely never bump culture. Do certain artist have to pump out single after single and album after album to stay relevant?

but yeah it is totally cus they're party songs tho that kind of music just doesnt stick, which is fine! its not like i mainly listen to carti or something most of the music i bump is pre 2000 but ill use a more modern example. people still bump blonde right? cause he was a recluse for 3 years and put out a fully fleshed out cohesive album rather than a tape of party songs

Exactly the point I was looking for. Imagine if someone DIDNT care if it was an album 3 years in the making and just moved on with the "wave". Party tracks or Deep s---, Its like, bruh the album is a month old and you calling it ancient and the past. Music always changes throughout time and people move along with it which is fine.

is your point just that people have short attention spans for music because of streaming and stuff now? im not really following i think this mainly just applies to like rap/party music

well i think its moreso true in rap music tbh like im definitely listening to ariel pink, fka twigs, grimes, cloud nothings albums from the past few years without a thought but i agree the turnover for rap is way quicker which has its pros and cons but i think the attention span is much longer for other genres

mainstream hits for sure but when a mainstream artist like a daft punk, frank or something drops a record i think people will stick with it for longer than a drake or migos record

    idk

i think this goes hand in hand with the other thread about ppl who only listen to like 1-2 songs they heard on the radio

absolutely no one ik listened to daft punk just because they put out a new album, they listened to that song with pharrel they heard on the radio and that's it. they listened to hotling bling and that's it. they listened to bad and boujee and that's it.

within a month it was a meme or they moved on

have to remember, our way of listening to music is a bubble on the internet and most ppl aren't inside it

sounds like you just dont know many people that are into music honestly

a bunch of my friends only listen to mac demarco, grimes, king gizard, vampire weekend records from a few years ago i think rap just stagnates much quicker because of how trnedy it is and ever changing s--- from a few years ago sounds mad dated and only the legendary stuff sticks around
