Jul 16, 2017 I want to begin by saying i'm not here to critisize or anything. I just want to give a suggestion since this is the section to do so. I've noticed that the forum has been a lot more quiet recently. I don't know if it has anything to do with it being summer time but to me it seems to be since there were changes made and you had to login to be able to view threads. I remember months back, when a thread was started there were people discussing and commenting within minutes. Now a lot of threads don't even exceed 1 page. You hover over a lot of sections and it isn't rare to see that the last message in a certain section was made hours ago. Anyway, I think having to login to be able to read threads is hurting the forum. I think what makes a new user want to sign up and participate in a discussion is seeing people's responses. It makes them want to respond. Nowadays with Information readily available just at the tip of your fingers people get distracted easily, so when they see a thread that looks interesting and realize they have to sign up to see what people are saying, they might just say "f--- it" and go somewhere else. On the other hand, being able to browse threads freely like most popular and active forums on the Internet gives you more chances of generating traffic. And more traffic = more people likely to sign up. I know the idea behind that was to try and get more people to sign up and participate, but the only thing it's really doing is hurting the traffic and making potential members go somewhere else because they didn't want to go through the "hassle" of signing up when they discovered this forum. But give them the opportunity to browse freely and eventually a lot of them will sign up.
Jul 16, 2017 koolo made you log in to view threads bc when big albums were dropping, guests would just view and never join iirc, i might be wrong tho
Jul 16, 2017 Indeed, but haven't you noticed that it was during those times that you got the most new members? Yes a lot of guests, but a lot of new members that decided to stay along even when the hype was gone. Even if there was a lot of guests, it's not like forcing them to sign up will make them stay. it's just going to be an extra hassle for what they where really here for. For example, I discovered the forum when the Eminem leaks surfaced. Because it was very popular on the Internet. At that time I just lurked... Anyway, the point is, later I rediscovered the forum for the second time when the MMLP2 was announced and what people were saying made me want to participate and be part of the hype. And I ended up staying. Had I been forced to sign up to see what people were saying in the threads when i arrived on the forum, i would have just gone to another place. But seeing people's responses and speculation made me want to sign up, take part in the discussions and give my 2cents.
Jul 17, 2017 @Tonshor ; The point is as you already said is to lure guests into signing up. If you make a quality thread that should be enough to make the guest sign up & contribute, opening up the thread will only attract more guests & nobody will bother to sign up cause they can just browse without an account to see responses, & banned members will be able view it to, if they're banned we want them gone, so it's best to limit it. Also it will take away the effect of a member "wanting to leave", I air quote because members sometimes say they're leaving when really they're just browsing as a guest. So the staff is probably wanting to eliminate that area as well.. Point is make a quality thread & you will see responses, maybe new members too. (also it's summertime, gtfo & do something)
Jul 17, 2017 This wouldn't be a bad idea to try again, especially since we have a pvt section now so guests and new people don't join discussions expecting to get a download link.
Jul 17, 2017 . To respond to your post. So what if there are a lot of guests? It's not like more guests reduces the number of members. On the contrary, it increases the number of potential members. Also, More traffic = more ad revenu for koolo. And so what if someone who gets banned is able to view threads? He got banned because of what he was posting in the first place, so his punishment is not being able to post. The thing you need to understand is that making people sign up to view threads is not going to make them post. If they where lurking before, they'll continue to lurk. Also, being able to view the first post of a thread is not enough to make people interested and want to partake in a discussion. "Gtfo and do something"? Than why are you here? Moron
Jul 17, 2017 actually i am ok with turning the feature off and on based on album drops i will turn it off now @Help
Jul 17, 2017 removed for now @Loya can u fix these two things not sure why the ad got f----- up when i removed the thingy, and if possible make below part of an if statement?
Jul 17, 2017 Great! Now that koolo opened it up, no reason to post now that I can view every thread. Sweet.
Jul 18, 2017 These issues should be fixed now @Tonshor thanks for your feedback, I like the idea of guests seeing more again
