Apr 27, 2016 I decided to randomly re-listen to Summertime '06 today as I wondered why I didn't listen to it often, then once I finished it I realized why I don't listen to it super often, it's only good. Now, the first disc is f---ing amazing, near perfection. "Summertime" could have been the closer to the album and I would have been completely satisfied. However, once you get the second disc you see Vince run out of ideas and just throw in some filler for no reason. What was the point of making this a double album? Now, Disc 2 has some great songs on it like "Surf", "Get Paid", "Hang N' b---", "C.N.B." and "'06", but the rest just feels like filler to me. This album could have easily been a great 14-15 track album but instead is just a really good. Vince had the potential to have a classic debut album but just kinda wasted it. Not fully as I still think this is a strong debut, but hopefully Vince beats the sophomore slump and creates a smash. What do you all think?
Apr 27, 2016 I think it's a great album and contender for best album of the year in 2015. Easily top 5 and probs top 3.
Apr 27, 2016 I like the setup, it can be a bit of a chore to listen thru altogether but both parts hold up on their own and compliment each other at the same time.
Apr 27, 2016 It was originally meant to be the first disc only. He only ever wanted a 10-track debut but he had 10 other tracks left over and No ID told him to release them as well.
Apr 27, 2016 I really disagree. To me, the entire album is phenomenal with no skippable tracks. The second part is just as good. (A$ton 3:16 in stores now)
Apr 27, 2016 1. Lift Me Up 2. Norf Norf 3. Birds & Bees 4. Lemme Know 5. Dopeman 6. Jump off the Roof 7. Señorita 8. C.N.B. 9. Get Paid 10. Summertime blassic (would have been the second best record last year)
Apr 27, 2016 also doesnt hurt that by the time track 17-18 rolls around, vince's rapping really starts to get on your nerves a little
Apr 27, 2016 The beginning of verse two on Street Punks is one of my favorite parts on the album. I don't know if ya heard of me But you heard them shots on the block, it's a murder scene Go on, call the cops, open heart, durin' surgery Now his breathing stopped, stupid n-ggas should've knew we tripping His delivery is incredible as well.
Apr 27, 2016 oh trust me its really good and an impressive debut album, but i just wish it was better as all the pieces are there, they aren't just all assembled together perfectly
Apr 27, 2016 I agree, and my comment wasn't directed at you whatsoever haha, but he definitely could've done a few things differently to make this even better. Overall, it was an extremely impressive debut that grew on me like crazy after my first couple of listens. It really took me a few months to fall in love with it.
Apr 27, 2016 I actually agree with this. When it came out I thought it was alright, a good debut. But after a while it just clicked and I had it on repeat for a fair period of time. AOTY last year.
