Yeah, it's a lot of trendy s--- that dies off relatively quickly and is usually forgotten (but I notice this more and more with other genres now as well). This is especially true now when the availability/ease of access to any song/album/artist you want is at everyone's finger tips now. Music in general is over-saturated as f---, so not much sticks around in the minds of most people, and that in turn causes a lot more artists to try and jump on trends to stay relevant and popular, so the cycle keeps going...

There is a lot of stuff that is timeless. Stuff that is really classic. That's what makes it a classic to me, when it's timeless. Most people are not open minded enough to go out of their own sphere tho.
It depends on the person but certain things don't have a timestamp imo
It must be good music and have a message that isn't too attached to that "one" era it is from

rap is too young for this to be a conversation i realised, most rap that you could even have this conversation about is only like 30 years old

I feel like lyrical rap music will always be relevant, take my opinion with a grain of salt with the following.

Artist like Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, Lil Yachty are just creating a new era of turn up music, you can only use a gimmick for so long before fans start to be like what the f--- is this dude doing? I feel like these type of artist for sure have a very limited life span appose to someone who has a more dedicated fan base because what they're speaking is usually emotional, or very well put in terms of word play.

As most people on this forum already know, I'm a big fan of the upcoming scene. I've been working recently to try and find more cats which spread a lyrical vibe, because I don't know about you guys but I'm getting really tired of all these same sounding rappers. I want someone who's going to diversify s--- on every track, not spit the same f---ing ad-lib on 20 tracks and put no thought into jack s--- they're saying.

Turn Up music and Rap Music to me are completely different genres, I bet in 5 years nobody will even know who Playboi Carti is, Uzi might last longer. Migos is a good example of turn up artist taking the right route in my opinion.

maybe lyrical isnt quite the term you're looking for because most lyrical rap music has aged like absolute s--- its moreso rappers that have rhythm and melody that write songs that are timeless imo but interesting argument

The opinion of someone who just follows the progression of the culture. I literally posted like 20 Kodak Black songs yesterday from the era where he appeared to be a giant f---ing cry baby, this era is honestly my favorite era from him.

This topic is too controversial because everyone will have another opinion, tldr SoundCloud ruined rap music.
