Mar 2, 2021 To me these two are the most important albums of the 1999-2005 Aftermath era, because while Dre developed THAT sound with 2001, it was GRODT (and to a certain extent, The Documentary) that perfected it. Both albums contain many classic hits: Still D.R.E., Xxplosive, What's The Difference, The Next Episode, and The Watcher on 2001; In Da Club, 21 Questions, Wanksta, Patiently Waiting, What Up Gangsta, and P.I.M.P. on GRODT just to name a few. It's a hard choice for me, but I'll go with GRODT. It is more consistent and almost every song on it is 10/10.
Mar 2, 2021 GRODT is still amazing album, probably the greatest debut album of all time, but I'll go with 2001, monumental point of Dr. Dre career.
Mar 2, 2021 I have to go with GRODT. That's as perfect of an album as you can get. I don't think there's one skippable track on it. GRODT has enough bangers to spread across 3 albums. You close your eyes and pick almost any song and it could be used as the best song and single on most rappers album. 2001 is right up there but GODTR is just a notch above imo.
Mar 2, 2021 When you look up masterpiece in the dictionary GRODT shows up. And this thread made me listen to it again.
Mar 2, 2021 pretty tough, both iconic and 50's hunger/swagger almost makes me lean with him. but the middle school kid in me gotta go with dre. both incredible
Mar 2, 2021 One of the toughest ones I’ve ever had to choose between but I’d have to go with GRODT. This album is such a classic juggernaut.
Mar 2, 2021 Almost forgot just how great 2001 is. But the second half of the album does feel a little weaker than the first half while GRODT is consistent all the way through. It all comes down to personal preference because both albums are phenomenal. Just wanted to add that people don't bring up this classic often enough. One of the most important albums in hiphop. I think it would be interesting to have a Chronic 1992 Vs 2001 thread. 2 absolute monster albums.
Mar 2, 2021 both are overrated, overlong albums that were bigger than just about any rap album from the last decade and a half; neither is the artist’s best work. 2001 is better.
Mar 2, 2021 this is tough but I gotta go with GRODT. I think that was the biggest album drop I've ever seen. Bigger than any of Em's
Mar 2, 2021 2001. But very close. 2001 is like a musical masterpiece, every beat on that s--- is 10/10.
