May 1, 2021 Seems like the last year or so its kind of been a change of the guard. A lot of the rappers who dominated the last decade appear to be slowing down. Personally, I have grown tired of trap which was by far my most listened to rap subgenre in the 2010s. Lately I've been fuckn with more of the traditional/underground type rappers like Boldy James, Roc Marciano and of course Griselda. Kind of crazy that last year all my favorite albums were from dudes in their mid thirties or older, with WLR being the exception. Seems like that trend is continuing this year.
May 1, 2021 Future, Lil Baby, Carti & UnoTheActivist are artists I always come back to. Conway and Boldy James are pretty great too. Some underground artists like SoFaygo, ssgkobe and Weiland maybe
May 1, 2021 Griselda I would love to say Kendrick, but idk what happened to him, almost 1500 days missing lol
May 1, 2021 I'm just straight up enjoying everything these days, no preference for mainstream or underground anymore really. Of the more established rappers right now that are ACTIVE my favorites are probably some combination of Freddie, Griselda, Roc Marci, 21, Dolph, Gucci, Future, Thug, Baby, Drakeo, Baby, Durk, Mozzy, Uzi, Carti, Denzel, Travis, Maxo Kream, IDK. And say what you will about DaBaby but I can't deny I still enjoy most of the s--- he puts out. I'm sure I'm' forgetting plenty others. In terms of newer up and comers, the list is impossibly long lol. But I'd highlight Sada Baby, NLE Choppa, Sheff G, 22Gz and Rome Streetz as a few that come to mind.
May 1, 2021 I feel like I’ve been going through a change lately trying to rediscover true rappers vs. singing rappers. Not that I don’t enjoy the latter with artists like Future, Thug, Rod Wave, Blxst, Yung Bleu, etc. but there is a time for both and the game is flooded with the same sound right now. Few artists that stand out to me right now are J.I.D, Denzel Curry, Freddie Gibbs, Polo G, Kota the Friend.
May 1, 2021 I don’t know why, but somehow I’m not listening to much music the last few weeks but Vel the wonder catchend my interest lately
May 2, 2021 Let The Sun Talk is one of my favorite albums to come out of that whole sLUms collective scene, he's unbelievably talented. Him and Medhane.
May 2, 2021 Can someone suggest a modern punchline rapper or group? Everything seems to be very socially aware and responsible these days or just “chill” and I just want ignorant battle bars. Legit would love to find someone new that clicks for me.
