Aug 18, 2021 Just like House of Balloons from earlier this year: Official merch released too, kinda pricey https://shop.theweeknd.com/
Aug 18, 2021 happy to see this, but i never understood why artists don't immediately retroactively release their full discography on streaming services...seems like they're leaving streams/revenue on the table(?). no need to wait for an anniversary.
Aug 18, 2021 Paying producers, clearing samples, etc...you gotta convince the label it's worth them paying up front and that they'll see profits later. With someone as big as the Weeknd it seems like a no brainer for sure though. However I believe this album is already on streaming in the form of Trilogy so an anniversary is just an excuse to nostalgia-bait people into streaming
Aug 18, 2021 producers, samples, etc. need to be paid up-front (again) to release the same project to a different medium?
Aug 18, 2021 The original mixtapes do have significant differences in comparison to the Trilogy that is already streaming
Aug 18, 2021 Well when it comes to stuff from the mixtape era like this that was released for free, those producers often weren’t paid and those samples often weren’t cleared in the first place. No one was (directly) making money from those projects so there was no money to pay anyone. Producers tend to get shafted a lot in general unfortunately. Wordddd I knew there were differences between trilogy and the originals but wasn’t sure how much and whether that would mean other producers would need to be paid or new samples would need to be cleared. I’m honestly not even sure if I’ve heard both versions of all of his first three tapes. I really should revisit these
Aug 18, 2021 which is why now that the OG House of Balloons is available on Spotify, I might never listen to the Trilogy version again, except to skip to track 10, Twenty Eight I love the vintage sound to Wicked Games, and Coming Down is my other favorite song on the mixtape which leaves out the anime sample on the remastered version
