May 8, 2015 I've been with some of you guys under a different username and less than a few hundred posts since '04 (on D12world/Rapbasement/Studioleaks) and thought a few users might find this interesting. (As much it is possible without understanding the lyrics.) Let's start this off with rap in Germany: 1. Rap in Germany has been very successful in the last few years and rappers constantly chart very high. For example: Kollegah's Album "King" sold 200,000 albums in 4 weeks and 3 days. To put that in perspective: How to p---- A Butterfly sold 557,329 times within 6 weeks in the US, but Germany's population is 3.75 times smaller. It also was the most streamed music album on Spotify on a weekend worldwide and was the first German artist that reached No.1 on the international daily Spotify streaming charts. 2. The diversity of German mainstream rap is extremely high (by mainstream I mean artists that were on top of the album charts. Underground rap is diverse everywhere). A lot of creativity, different styles, themes and techniques - even to a sort of extrem and silly or ridiculous extent. There's even a rapper in a f---ing Spongebob costume (video below) that has no label and his album still charted on #1 in Germany and Austria. Here a few different examples that show the diversity (Note: I selected them, because they released successful albums in the last two years - not because I like them). Check out these videos and try to give them all 30sec-1min: Kollegah (Last Release Chart Position #1) Genetikk (Last Release Chart Position #1) Marteria (Last Release Chart Position #1) KC Rebell (Last Release Chart Position #1) Cro (Last Release Chart Position #1) Casper (Last Release Chart Position #1) Die Fantastischen Vier (Last Release Chart Position #1 / One of the first groups to rap in the German language.
